What does it take?

There are some grown men on this forum tonight who need to lay off the George Dickel and go to bed.
To be fair to George Dickel, many of these "grown men" you speak of were eat up with stupid long before they started drinking....

I have no idea. Made the comment in the Florida-Samford thread in Around the NCAA.

I've seen injuries derail a season. I've seen some kind of horrific event derail a season. Some other things too.

I have never seen a team (and really the whole program as recruiting has become a joke) go from competent to incompetent in a month and half without an obvious smoking gun.

I don't know where the team that played Alabama and Tennessee went, but it's dead and gone.

So is Mullen.

Personally think Mullen is regretting not taking a shot at an NFL gig and is burned out from the recruiting.

Hiring Todd Grantham as a DC has never worked out well long term for anyone either.

To expect anything less than what happend is foolish. TN isnt any where near the talent level of UGA. It is what it is. But we have 2 games to go that are 100% winnable and get to a bowl game. The fact we have a chance to win 7 games this season is remarkable considering what happend during the offseason. This team plays with heart and effort. But that doesnt make up the huge talent gap. We gotta recruit guys. Hold your head up high for these young men. Lets help them get back to where we belong.

Recruiting is a huge part of coaching. So wrong.
According to an x Auburn head coach(Tuberville) I saw on SEC nation a couple of months ago, he said it was all about recruiting, not much about coaching. He said pretty much coaching at this level is about equal. You don't think TN's record in the last 10 years would be a lot better with UGA or Bama recruits? I like to see Kirby or Saban win a title with our team. ;) Not knocking our team, but they don't have the talent level of OSU, Bama or UGA. I love to watch this team though, they are so much more fun to watch than in recent years. Go Vols and win the next 2 games.

I guess every team Georgia has played can say the same. Yeah, we got beat, it’s the #1 team in the nation. We’ll have our time. There are going to be loses along the way…. it’s a learning lesson. The fact that you had hope going in and your expectations were too high says alot. Means you thought we had a chance but we aren’t there YET. Think to this time last year. Leaps and bounds above! GBO!

Bottom line. Losing SUCKS. No matter how you spin it or sugar coat it. We will not be, and SHOULD NOT be satisfied or remotely happy until that changes. Maybe we are on the right track to changing that. I sure feel better about this team then I did that sad collection of personnel as last year wound down, but this isn’t acceptable. This is not what Tennessee is about. If and when we do get back, make sure and remember how this feels and make DARN sure we never let out program get to this point again. And always remember that the people in charge in the first few years of the new millennium let it get this way. Quit romanticizing and seeing the late Fulmer/Hamilton years as anything but what they really were, the mortgaging of a once proud and storied program which we are still paying off to this day.
Once you let a program go to seed, it takes forever to rebuild (unless you have Bama or Georgia level funding to “buy your way back” (which we don’t have))

Losing brings out all the trolls and morons. OP you and Maxim should at least learn something about FB and post with some kind of credibility, even when your posts are at the moron level.

Hey man I apologized. I posted without a level head. I had hyped myself into a we might win this thing while I was tailgating yesterday.

What does it take to realize what the badass ones before you did? What does it take to play for that T on your helmet? Absolutely embarrassing.

Totally agree. Pruitt obviously didn’t have our guys ready to play. And Georgia State wanted it more.

No, wait a minute…

The only thing embarrassing about yesterday are reactions like this from fans that don't understand football..

Like yourself.

This was the#1 team in the nation. By a long shot. Tennessee played as hard as they could and couldn't keep it going vs. Georgia. Tennessee still scored more points on Georgia than anyone has all year.

You don't know much about football if you expected a different outcome.

Yep, this thread is ridiculous.

Some people expect '98 every year. Or that magical year that was 47 years before that............
Tennessee has been an above average program for over 100 years, but never a program that consistently was a NC threat. There are only 5-6 programs like that.

Yep. I mean there were TN fans saying we would win this game. UGA hasn’t seen a team like us. UGA is overrated. It’s the same thing every year.

Even when we won in 2016, it took a Hail Mary to beat them with a true FR QB and Kirbys rookie season. I mean we don’t have a single person on defense that would be on UGAs second string.
No it took a Hail Mary AFTER we had them beat and a blown coverage that almost cost us the game. And....we have a good defense but for some reason we just can’t get those breaks enough. These running QBs have been the big thorn in our side allllll year. It’s almost sickening to watch these low balls plucked off the turf and caught to keep a drive alive. We just can’t seem to catch the breaks down the stretch. Not kicking field goals while in field goal range and going on forth is STUPID!!! Will not win you momentum in an SEC game against better teams. That turned the game into a onslaught !

Did you really expect to win this game? No one has figured out how to beat this GA team with more talent than us. GA left their starters on the field and we still scored more points than anyone else all season. And fought at the end to do so. It became a battle at the end. GA was trying to keep the streak alive and we were trying to break it. We fought and we won that battle and did what no one else has been able to do. This team has shown more pride this season and has fought to the end of games more than any of our teams for the last 10 years.
We were on there side of the fifty I think 4 times and couldn’t put it down the field in the end zone till the end. It’s not like we couldn’t move it other than the over throws...int. Fumbled. Wrong decisions or play calls cost us any chance or momentum.

Why? Played like absolute dog ****.
We scored more points against the #1 defense in the country. Did you forget we were playing a team that had destroyed every other team they have played and was giving up less than 7 points per game. Did you try a sports book app and lose. Posts like this make it easy to tell the "fans" posting this how lame they are and how much I really enjoy the ignore feature. I just wanted to let you know you are very much in the minority with your opinion. Reply if you want. I couldn't care less about about how you reply, and I will not see it anyway.

Don't do that to yourself.....

This is more evidence of what I DON'T appreciate about your comments and attitude toward UT. Mullen got you two 10 win seasons. He won 8 in the Covid season. He's having a terrible year this year for a bunch of reasons... not the least of which IMO is his reluctance to pick a QB and then endure the fans. He lost his locker room.

Yeah. All this and more... but when it was UT tolerating this kind of crap WITHOUT the 10 win seasons... you acted like we shouldn't expect any better.

Frankly, it couldn't happen to a more deserving fanbase... or particular fan. Please keep firing good coaches every time they stumble.

When did Tennessee tolerate it?

When did I argue to keep, Dooley, Butch or Pruitt?
