Today, no.Pruitt ain’t Dabo
Today, no.
Dabo has built a monster at Clemson. Being in the ACC has made that easier from a total W/L standpoint, but what he has done is pretty remarkable. He's winning his fair share in the playoff against the top teams and is arguably the best program right now, right there with Bama.
The only comparison would be what either coach was considered when they were hired. I don't remember anyone forecasting Dabo to be a future 2 time NC winner and the guy to challenge Bama as the best program in the country when he was promoted from WR coach. And I don't think anyone knew he was going to have the 5 year (probably 6 after this season) run that he has had even as late as the 2014 season. At that point he had gone 3 straight years without winning the conference again. To that point he was a good coach but not an elite one.
Having said all that, Im not claiming Pruitt is or will be Dabo or even close for that matter. But Dabo really didn't make a major mark until his 7th full season when he made the championship game against Bama and push them to the limit. Since then, he has kept that momentum rolling and set it up to be an annual thing.
There is if you look a little deeper than the score of one particular game. It is not going doom us to a terrible season and it certainly does change the fact that the roster has been transformed from a MAC roster which won games on mircles and gimicks to legitimate SEC roster full of beef and speed. The real problem this year has been the turnovers, that has to stop. Without the turnovers everthing changes. There is nothing to indicate Pruitt is righting this ship
I think the term negavols is a little overplayed. If there are still Vols fans still around here after the "crap" show that we have incurred over the past 12-13 years who seem downtrodden, jaded, or hopeless, and they were around for the good times, then I think it's more of a badge of honor. I think people are very fatigued from witnessing the same incompetence over and over and over again through 3 different coaching regimes and a very public failed coaching hire.
There were plenty of indications in Dabo's first 3 seasons, that he was going to at least be a "good" head coach. There are no such indicators so far in Pruitt's first 3 seasons that he will follow a similar path; quite the opposite.
I wouldn't disagree with that. But nobody is using Dabo as a comparison for anything without the last 5 or so seasons. Dabo separated himself when he proved he could compete with and eventually beat the best teams in the country for National Championships, which is a substantial step up from just winning a bunch of games in the ACC.
And I dont disagree with Pruitt not being on the same tract today. But my point still stands that Dabo wasn't a shoe in for "good" when he was hired. And he wasn't a shoe in for "elite" at any point before his 7th full season.
To the bigger idea of hiring. Clemson didnt load up and go get the proven commodity that you knew was going to win no different than UT did with Pruitt, Jones, Dooley, Kiffin or even Fulmer. The last time you could argue UT did it was with a UT guy in 77' and that didn't see fruit for several years either. Clemson hit the lottery.
Agree with you. Using this thought process, ”just wait till next year” would continue to be our mantra.A year removed from the ACC championship, then the next year he rolled onto a BCS bowl and the rest is history. There is no evidence of that here

What are The Legion of Miserables going to do when we put it all together and start whipping tail? A lot of screen names will be changed that's for sure. I don't think the hardcore Negavols will be able to handle it and will become Georgia fans, the original Legion of Misery.
Nope. If Clemson had been anything like us they would have given him a lucrative long-term extension after winning his division in year 2, making it nearly impossible to get rid of him any time soon.Nope. I am saying Dabo was given that long. If Clemson fans had been like us, he would have been fired after year 3.
well we kinda whipped tail the last half of last season... the problem now is we've gone backwards and players/qb's haven't been developed
Several in this thread saying "look at Dabo" as a reason to disregard Pruitt's current failings as a HC.
We aren't even in the neighborhood of discussing elite yet. Pruitt is just trying to achieve competent at the moment.
I really doubt it goes like the last 3 games for the rest of the season. First, we are not going to play the 2 best teams in the country. Second we have not played as bad as it appears. We were in the game with Georgia until halfway through the 3 quarter. We actually dominated Kentucky at the line of scrimage most of the game, and they are not bad on the line of scrimage. We just gave the ball away and you aint winning giving the ball away 6 times. Alabama we had too many turnovers and we really played them as good as anyone so far. Really Georgia didn't really do any better than we did.
We are improving and trending in the right general direction.
The administration would have given him a lifetime contract.Nope. If Clemson had been anything like us they would have given him a lucrative long-term extension after winning his division in year 2, making it nearly impossible to get rid of him any time soon.
I agree with the talent of the skill players but is the other true based on performance? And if all of this is true... what does it say about the coaches? The HC?
That's fine. Its not gonna change how either of us look at it. And I don't think it even touches the bigger point anyway which is the fact that if you didn't like the Pruitt hire, you wouldn't have liked the Dabo hire either.
