What an arrogant...

Here's the more complete quote, with context:

In context, he said nothing more or less than, "some folks are being real jerks right now, kicking us while we're down, and we're gonna remember that when brighter days come."

In context, that's not arrogant. It is a bit vengeful, but as much crap as he's being given right now, I wouldn't say it's entirely uncalled for.

You ***** and ***** and ***** at someone, don't be surprised when they snap back a little. That's all Butch was doing.

Not the big deal you and a few others are making of it.

I think you're missing the point: the way, the ONLY way, that a coach can win a football game is through his players. They are his tools, his hands. The only means he has.

So if a coach says, "Our QB needs to develop better touch in his throws," the coach isn't just insulting the QB. He's calling out the QB, and the QB position coach, and the offensive coordinator, and himself.

If a coach says, "our defense needs to tackle better," he's not just calling out the players. He's calling out the DC and all those positions coaches, and himself as well.

It seems you're missing that part of a coach's perspective.

Too many people giving up too quickly on a coach who might end up being very good. It's a pity. This virulently negative atmosphere at the first sign of hardship might be part of the reason we have trouble getting great coaches to consider the jobs when we have to go looking.

Maybe we need better fans more than we need a better coach or AD....

First sign of hardship? You want to preach context and then make that statement?

Where have you been the last decade or so?

This is an increasingly negative situation, not just because of Jones, but because of a nearly a decade of frustration, futility, and near misses witnessed by this fan base.

Some of the backlash isn't fair to Jones given past history but the bottom line is the man signed on for the job.

But Jones and his team aren't helping it with inexplicable gaffes by the players AND THE COACHES this season.

Most people would be fine if there was clear evidence that Oklahoma, Florida, and Arkansas were the superior teams.

No shame in losing to the better team but this is three games where they have been on equal or better footing that they have simply choked away so far this season.

No one can reasonably expect this fan base to do anything but get more negative if it continues.

Have you noticed that at least 80% agree with me. Sportscasters across the nation, x-coaches, x-players and most of the Vol fans. Maybe you should step back and look at this thing again. You will see the light by the end of the season.

That fabricated number is ridiculous and shows you aren't paying attention. Also if you're going to call out my stance at least take a minute to understand it. It's really not too much to ask

You people are acting like we are terrible and we are not. We have actually been blessed with watching quality football once again at UT again.

Have you heard anything about the coaching blunders this year? Seen any games? Pretty much everyone with a pulse has said the three loses were because of in game coaching blunders. This sort of thing just doesn't fix itself.

I bet that "fabricated number" is a lot closer to being right than wrong. I'll stick with.....by the end of the season you will see the light.

He's pissed off and he should be, I hope that all this negative talk fuels his fire and he uses it to motivate this team to get wins.... Hell I don't care if he freaking hates the fanbase, WIN FREAKING GAMES MAN!!!!. What did you expect him to say, he's mad and I hope the team is mad too, I hope he got into it with coach Z and Deboard, and the rest of the team gets that me against the world mentality and it translates into wins.

It's true if you ignore anything to the contrary. I've mentioned the coaching yet you can't admit maybe the players could do what they were recruited to do.

As bad as the coaching has been at times, a couple of plays from those high star recruits puts us at 4-1 minimum

I said earlier this year if we lose many games it will be early in the season. We will play even better football down the stretch. The guys we need to rely on are young. Now that they have some playing time under their belts we will continue to improve down the stretch.
Call me crazy, but I like our chances this week and next. I think this team is better than most of you are giving them credit for. You are so focussed on the record that you can't seem to remember the in all of the football we have played just how close all 3 losses have been. We have had an opportunity to win them all on the last possession of all 3 games.
The percentages are in our favor, that the ball starts to bounce our way soon.

With all due respect, that is not the context in which Butch said those words.

I heard him say , in a paraphrased manner, that he told the team that football is like life, and this is a tough time which they need to own and fix, and you find out who is with you and who isn't during tough times. And that at some point in life, you'll refer to this time, maybe later this season, maybe 10 years from now. So he wasn't talking specifically about remembering who is with you or against you, rather how you get through adverse times.

TIFWIW

As upset as I am about the way this season is turning out it seems like some people want to attack the man personally. I am sure he did not mean this in a revenge sort of way.
NOW GO WIN A GAME!

Whatever. You blame the players, I blame the coaching. We'll talk again around Vanderbilt time.

To me we took a step backwards against Arkansas. We looked awful after the first quarter.

Except for the fact I've blamed them both. I've repeatedly said that everyone in that locker room had a hand in this. In fact, I've stated that in almost every post!

As I pointed out earlier, you obviously are not paying any attention. Are you quoting the wrong posts? Wrong thread? Wrong board? :dunno:

Some are struggling with this concept PJ. Coaches got to coach and players got to play ... for 60 minutes. Neither has happened.

I agree with everything Saban said there... Said the players should play for themselves, their teammates and coaches and the fans! Not the media, the media doesn't matter. Agree 100%

Man it would be nice to have bammers problems.

I hate to say this but 90% of our fans are pu$$y's, like a bunch of damm women stirring **** blah blah blah damm

I kind thought the fans part was a nice catch, of course he's a little more experienced at that kind of thing by now.

There is the rub for me over anything Jones is saying in the press conferences about keeping a list or a bunker mentality or whatever.

People are overreacting to stuff like that IMO.

But when he says the team is getting better but there is nothing on the field on Saturdays proving that is a different story.

Tackling has been much, much worse this season.

Dobbs played like a warrior against Florida but hasn't improved his accuracy, not that he has been given much opportunity to show anything else but the ability to scramble out of trouble.

The offensive line continues to be terrible and there have been plays where those guys have been flat out lazy.

Medley is starting to struggle more and more.

Sorry, it's just getting really difficult to find any improvement out of this team and it continues to add up in more and more losses.
