Westbrook Gone

Not saying it wasn’t, but let’s not classify Westbrook as some sort of hero. She didn’t do anything for the betterment of the program, she did it for herself.

I believe different. If E had been that selfish, it would have been revealed long before then.
A true leader will put themselves in jeopardy for their charges. When we lose her, we lose a Chamique-Candace type of potential.

Here is something to think about, Westbrook is a 2 and she told Holly the only way she would come to Tennessee is if she played the 1. Now, whose fault is it that she played the 1 and was bad at that position?

Westbrook is not a 2. She CAN play the 2 and is more of a combo guard in the same fashion as Alexis Hornbuckle, but she played PG in high school.

Also, she knew she would be playing both positions because Hayes was coming in, as well. I'm not sure where you're getting your info.

Evina is a Pt/Forward or SF. She's not a 2 and she can play the one, but shouldn't. Her perfect spot would be a Karl Malone type game.

The thing is most any competent coach would have won at least have the games Tennessee has lost in the past 2 years. So no thanks - new staff, new direction

New "Head" is all we need...I don't believe that we have even seen what the snake can do.
I don't believe in CHW's rein that individualism was allowed.
We just needed a "game coach" and an empowering HC to get the job done.

I think the point the podcast was trying to make was: Why fire a mediocre coach if you're not committed to hiring a much better one?

And it's a valid point.

Still, I think they concluded that a change had to be made -- and if you can't hire a sure winner, you roll the dice.

"Snake Eyes" can be there tomorrow

Adams is stepping up his anti-Kellie campaign, and he doesn't care how foolish or inconsistent it makes him look.

Now he's suggesting that theres's no reason Horston should come to Tennessee because she doesn't have any prior relationship with Kellie (while he enthusiastically embraces Kara in the same breath). He's bothered by Kellie's "known" record at NC State but not by Kara's unknown (due to being nonexistent) coaching record.

With fans like that, who needs enemies?

I am on both sides of the fence in this one
I saw the team many times in the two SEC women's tourneys I interned with in 96 and 97.
KJ was fierce and one of my favs to watch/
She orchestrated the offense

I am on both side of the fence here because...
the person who's personality she has to replace is not Holly,
it is Pat.

KJ learned under CHW because CHW coached the guards for Pat
If KJ comes in here to be the better version of CHW,,, fail
If KJ would have to come into UT and has that CPS "presence" or brings it with her in the form of her other-half...success

If Evina is just putting her name out there to to take preliminary steps just in case or if that allows her to gauge interest, that's one thing.

If she has definitely decided she's through without even knowing Holly's replacement, she may just be sick and disallusioned with UT from the whole experience and want a fresh start. Or she may be sick of the criticisms. Or not trust that changes will make enough difference to justify staying her last two years and want to join a stable, established contender.

Or there may be more locker room problems that go beyond the staff.

With coach Jumper's obvious love for UT Lady Vols and so much to add working with young recruits fresh out of high school on newly needed skill levels I sincerely hope
he gets a shot at using his talents in some capacity in the new coach coming in situation.

Mark it down. If Westbrook goes to a solid program and gets a waiver she's an All American next year.

If Westbrook stays and a new offensive-minded coach comes in and uses her effectively, she's an All American next year.

Good Lord, Jumper done went and elevated Westbrook to the status of Chamique Holdsclaw and Candace Parker, and calls Westbrook a true leader, whose publicly calling for her coaches to to be fired, is a sign of her leadership qualities.

Westbrook would be outstanding and fit in well on a team with Chamique and Candace. They could use her type of player even with the much greater competition now
being seen across the board.

I am in no way seeking to tear down a player but please never compare Evina to Candace or Chamique. Both of those ladies were superstars who lead their respective teams to titles during their sophomore years.

With good coaching, Westbrook would have been the best point guard to ever play for the Lady Vols. We've never had a guard that can do the things she does. If she came back, with Davis and Horston, the Lady Vols would have a solid chance to make the Final Four next season with the right coach...

That would be a great way for Evina to offset the wasted opportunities from the first two years and to feel that her perseverence had paid off. What an inspirational story that would be.

I wonder why each player initially chose Tennessee. The only one I can remember seeing was Collins (I think). Whoever it was said it just felt like home.

If others came to help restore the Lady Vols to prominence and to compete for championships, a lot of the pieces would be in place for deep tournament runs if everyone stayed and bought in. I think about Jessica Shepard for ND and Williams and Schofield for us and how hard they worked just to physically transform themselves, much less improving their bball skills.

I'd hope all the players would want to meet the new coach(es) and hear them out before making final decisions. i'm sure other schools will be trying hard to poach the best talent.

Crystal Dangerfield and Sabrina Ionescu would be better fits at Tennessee.

I heard it from The Source.

You all will learn.

What things does EW do that no other guard in LV history ever did? Where are you seeing this amazing ability? Because its not at UT Lady Vols Basketball games. Halfway thru her career, EW has had a couple of great games, a smattering of good games, some flashes of very good play during parts of games, and some numbingly bad games. But never ever anything approaching the consistency and reliability of the great LV guards.

Once again, I think we're conflating the player we think EW should be, and the player she has actually been. She has a ton of potential and I truly hope that gets developed to the fullest extent wherever she goes. Or stays. But good Lord, be realistic. If she were that category of great she would not be leaving. The very point of going somewhere else is that she realizes she was not developing here.

crazy talk?

The title of this thread seems premature. This action could just be contingency planning--i.e., keeping all her options open until the new coach is named.

It certainly has provided a playground for the Evina bashers. I never seen a fan base so eager to turn on its players. Oh, Diamond, she has a pouty expression - I hate her! Oh Evina, gaspI she said there were problems on the team after the LVs were eliminated in the first round -- How dare she! I hate her!

Sad, sad, sad

Westbrook is a kind soul who visits patients at Children's Hospital.
