Westbrook Gone

you all should check out the Volunteer State podcast from today. JA makes some really observations about the search. Spoiler alert: if you are in the KJH camp you won’t like it.

If it's like the recent one, he already made it clear that he was a Walz guy and had reservations about Kellie.

Re: Westbrook...hard to blame her if she decides to leave considering how many "fans" have been advising her, Davis, Horston, and any other top players to leave if an "acceptable" coach isn't hired.

Thanks for nothing for putting Billy, Don't Be a Hero on an endless loop. :(

Why do Fortner and Landers feel that yelling and screaming at the camera during pregame adds color to their commentary?

I halfway expect Andy to jump up, rip off his coat and shirt, and yank out some chest hairs while bellowing...and tben glaring at Nell in a "Match that!" challenge.

Well, we can quit complaining about Westbrook, she is transferring. While I thought she was not a great point guard, I think she had the makings of a number 2 guard. I loved her dribble drive, however, we really need a point guard. I wish her nothing but the best, however, if she is unhappy, she did the best thing for herself and the Lady Vols.

I think she did the whole throw Holly under the bus thing for selfish reasons so she wouldn’t have to sit out a year, or at least have a better chance of getting a waiver

Since when is pointing out the obvious throwing someone under the bus?

I mean, you make it sound like Holly got fired because of what she said which is completely, totally and utterly ridiculous.

No, I don’t think that’s what caused Holly to get fired ultimately, but it didn’t help. I’m just tired of people making her out to be some sort of martyr when it seems very obvious that she didn’t do it for her teammates or the program, she did it in hopes of not having to sit out a year.

I say BS. That goose was cooked way before the last game!!

Podcast is bizarro bullsh&t. Did John Adams fall on his head? Oh poor poor Holly and her awesome winning percentage and elite eights! Mean and stupid ole UT fires her prematurely and without a plan! Maybe we should unfire her, since no one else is out there with Holly's "resume".

This from Adams, who I usually defend, the first local media to finally tell the truth in his column weeks ago, call for Holly's firing and detail exactly why, in spite of her record, it was past time for Holly to go. Talked about the steep and damaging decline the last four seasons, the fact Holly long ago lost control of the program. The alarming lack of development and improvement. He identified it all back then. He knows full well her record was packed into the early years when she had Pat's players. Just chose to exclude all context and totally present an untrue alternative reality in this podcast. Crazy.

Seems to be resigned to KJH as inevitable replacement by default. He's very meh on her, mostly b/c she can't be as good a coach as Holly, compare the numbers! Again, stupid and bizarre. I'm not thrilled about KJH but I know for certain she's a better coach than Holly. Also, just to complete the mindfu&k, Adams says he doesn't think Horston will come to Tenn, and that she shouldn't.

Player parents must stay off social media regarding their kids, period. Most do, realizing we posters don't know sh&t and have zero clue most of the time. Absolutely no good can come from arguing. I get Mama Bear and all that, but lesson one of celeb parenting is grow a thick skin. The internet is not going away and its not going to get better. You're better off not knowing.

All this talk about this terrible thing Westbrook allegedly said is crazily overblown. In his podcast, Adams called it "ripping your Coach." Anyone actually watch that? An upset kid, minutes after another in a long line of humiliating defeats ended a miserable season, answered a heavily leading question with a mumble. "Yeah, I guess, ok, the staff too." That's literally it, neither hero or martyr in that instance. Just a tired and emotionally wrung out kid. Drama queen posters and commentators blow it way out of whack.

Hard for me to be more mad at any of the players than feel sorry for what's happened to them. They worked hard to get here, came with great expectations of the best time in their lives and have lived through a sports nightmare instead. No matter how blame is assessed, these are kids having an incredibly disappointing experience. I hope they all make the very best decisions of what to do next and wish them all the best. They deserve to salvadge something from their careers.

That's the dumbest thing I've seen on this board in a while.

So what’s the significance of her attending this VOLeaders event yesterday? Will she be representing the University in Rowanda shortly?

Looks like she’s enjoying herself...

Here is something to think about, Westbrook is a 2 and she told Holly the only way she would come to Tennessee is if she played the 1. Now, whose fault is it that she played the 1 and was bad at that position?

I could find areas of Westbrook's game to criticize but on a personal level I wish her well regardless. Hate to see her go but considering the state of LV basketball the last few years I cannot blame her for wanting to get out of this program.
