It was in 1971. It's recognized by the NCAA.
Yes, the Bone callout was where it begins, in my opinion. Refresh my memory if I'm incorrect, but didn't the Memphis player start that verbal exchange first with Bone?
So what? several NJC and FCS games from the past are too, but this is not an actual 1-A bowl game
Tigger fans will justify anything to be relevant, I mean El Camino College, Cerritos College, and Jones County Jr. College all played in this "bowl"![]()

The Pasadena Bowl was a junior college bowl for most of its existence, but 1971 was the last of the three years that the bowl was a legitimate NCAA 1-A bowl game.
I notice he completely ignored the part about the NCAA officially recognizing it as a legit bowl game.
The funniest part, I don't even give a **** about Memphis; but facts are facts.
It was never considered a major bowl. It was not recognized as one.I did. Maybe you should try reading a little harder yourself. @TrumpedUpVol has already told you as have I, the NCAA officially recognizes it as a bowl. I'm not sure how much slower I need to type to get you to understand. Now go ahead and repeat for the 3rd time something we've both already acknowledged.
The NCAA will set up an office at Tiger High and i think Penny will wind up being as crooked at Dana Kirk as far as recruiting goes.We gain nothing from playing Memphis every year.
All Penny will do is teach his young players to flop around and run their mouths.
Not to mention his dirty tactics in recruiting, will eventually catch up to him in the long run.
Barnes is a very well respected coach and never acts like a little kid every time he loses a ball game to a rival.
Maybe. But that honestly doesn't even bother me. It was an intense game with crazy officiating. Tensions were high, and Memphis knew they were about to lose. I think the double tech was warranted on both ends, and that should have been the end of it. And it would have been had Penny not run his mouth with nonsense afterwards.
His dirty tactics have ALREADY caught up to him, at the beginning of his second year.We gain nothing from playing Memphis every year.

A good non conference series MUST be mutually beneficial. This one is not. End it.
