Wake up Vols......

Take away the QB position and drama.... The recruiting and portal has to take a step up with this staff.... The new is wearing off.... Seen this story before.... Recruiting needs to be top 3 SEC.. Oline development/ WR development
Top 3 in the SEC means number 4 or 5 in the country which will be hard. I think we can get there when people view us as a more consistent National Championship contender but we have some geographic issues. Schools in Georgia, Florida and Texas have a lot more in state talent. We are among the top NIL destinations but I’m not sure we are top 5 in spending. We also need time to put some more Olineman and DB’s in the league. Would have helped if Nico stayed and was a top 5 draft pick too.

JMO…

At some point Danny White is going to feel the heat, for giving coach Hype that long term contract extension. Especially in the department of recruiting.

Not to mention the conflict of intrest, of their personal relationship.
CJH has been the best thing to happen to this program in 2 decades. Don’t get me wrong sometimes I’m frustrated that we aren’t recruiting top 5 but I think we can get there with time. We also have to realize what he’s done has been remarkable. If we had some better QB and WR play last year we would’ve been a national championship contender. CJH has proved this team can adapt and win on defense too. We may not be a dynasty to rival 2010’s Alabama soon but we can make a national championship runs when the roster clicks together and we have some experienced players stay.

Well, it's your 'opinion'....& we know the analogy here, bud. You are SO off base here. No matter, just wallow in it.

CJH probably needs to hire a top shelf general manager to better interface with the NIL exchange to keep the head coach out of the public facing parts of this drama, he needs to be fully involved and engaged in this process, but shouldn't sully himself with the sordid details connected to unseemly money grabs, let some other heavy come in and do the dirty work, the clean up and take a few arrows before CJH has to go public on this trash.

Fulmer didn't seem to have geographic issues until after 2002 (#3 class w/o a QB). He was able to cherry pick NC, SC and get a few from GA and AL which gave us top 5 classes. Why can't that be replicated?

Fulmer picked up a program that had been winning the large majority of the previous 10 years whereas Heupel took over the exact opposite. Surely you recognize the uphill climb going head to head with programs that dominated NC playoff games the last 6 years like Ga & Ala. I’d say the Vols are doing pretty good in NC (2 5* signees last class & 1 committed) 1 5 star from Ga & 1 from Ala in the past freshman class

I agree that Heupel’s recruiting needs to be better - much better. Oline development has been atrocious. But for Heupel friendship is more important than coaching excellence.

It was under a different set of circumstances. I think it can be replicated with time but it’s going to take a bit. I think it’s harder to pull the top guys out of GA and AL than it used to be. We’ve had pretty decent success in NC and Virginia because the programs there aren’t as competitive. It’s just going to be hard to pull top talent out of GA, Louisiana, AL, FL and TX with those programs having deep pockets and a lot of success at the moment. As long as we get our fair share we can compete.

I don’t think we can put up the offensive numbers we have and then act like our OL is so bad because it’s not. It doesn’t mean it’s been amazing but they’ve been finalists for a lot of awards. Heard and Campbell struggled to stay healthy or preform in pass protection last year. But it’s hard to build young lineman up in this portal era because it takes 3-4 years for most lineman to be SEC ready and the first few years of OL recruiting here wasn’t amazing. It’s getting better I’m not sold on elarbee but he also gets too much hate.

Where have you been? Playoffs last year. One game away before that. TCU debacle by committee. The Vols are fun to watch again!

The different set of circumstances is mostly NIL. Bama is transitioning from Saban. UGA can't take all the top-notch talent in GA, the ACC is a second tier conference, I think SC is in decline, Belichick won't be at UNC too long, UVA is not competitive. Plenty of room to stock up on 4* and 5* talent.

I think he is absolutely right. Hell, we were a contender last year that happened to play the champs in the first round because of the whacked out seeding rules.

And we don’t really have much production to replace at the QB position, which only put up around 150 yards per game in SEC play.

Some of you just cannot be happy. You could be married to a super model with the personality of Mother Teresa…and you’d complain when she got a pimple on her ass.

You can run with that....OK. Go for it. I'm with CJH & Danny White, thanks

Top 3 SEC? Do tell how you’re going to consistently outspend to out recruit teams with more money? Tennessee has to this point punched above its weight in recruiting. Texas, Texas AM right out the gate have more money than anyone else in the conference then you have LSU, Florida, Georgia, Bama.

You have never seen this story before bc it’s never been entirely about NIL. It is now for 95% of elite recruits. The above are just the conference teams as well without bringing Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oregon, USC, etc into the mix. Recruiting top ten and occasionally breaking into the top five with development should be the goal.

The basketball team is getting a ton of resources right now. I always wanted to be competitive in basketball, but when Barnes retires I would like for football to get more of the focus if the rules haven't changed.

Elarbee has done very little in developing depth and players on the oline - portal my arsss - the only thing that has salvaged the oline is the freaking portal. On the other side of the ball however Garner has excelled in recruiting and development.

Elarbee isn’t very good at his job - his best quality is being Heupel’s best friend.

Honestly, I don't have confidence that this coach or staff can take that step. There are some positions that either aren't developed well enough and/or that have poor evaluators. Let's not forget that Nico was THE choice at QB for Heupel coming out of HS.

What Nico was last year was after 2 years of coaching and development. Would year 3 have been better? We'll never know. If Nico flops at UCLA, it will still make some fans(me) question Heupels eval. If he balls out, some fans (me) will question why our staff couldn't get that kind of performance out of Nico. No win situation. The next couple of seasons will be very interesting for Josh Heupel.
It’s not a no win situation. We win the whole ordeal if we get good QB play.
