Wake up Vols......

Recruiting rankings often are ********. Texas, TxA&M, Florida, Georgia & LSu will probably always be ranked higher cause the majority of kids in those states will be rated higher than the same kid in Tennessee, North Carolina or Virginia.
With all due respect, this is copium.

If I said it once I’ve said it a hundred times. Beating Bammer, the Gators, and getting knocked out of the playoffs by the National Champ Suckeyes. Is still not good enough. If youre not first youre last… wooooooo 98!!

We all love Knoxville but who honestly wants to live here over Austin, T Town, Auburn, Baton Rouge, Gainesville, Nashville, or College Station? This isn’t a real college town. The weather here sucks, outside of summer.
The weather is actually nice today but who would want to come here and play football with all this pollen!

While I'm not in the panicked crowd with the OP, I see problems with momentum and direction with our program. The OL and WR rooms are sketchy at best, and we have no real true SEC playmakers on the team, especially on offense. This is the 5th season with Heupel. All of the 'dumpster fire' and other excuses are fading fast.

As for the solid seasons, granted. But if we go to the world of math, a function can be producing data points at a high level currently but have a negative derivative. That's what I'm concerned I see. Outside of 2022 and Hooker, we have not seen steps forward with this staff. Especially on the offense side of the ball. Garner has the DL humming, but he seems to be the exception on this staff.

I'm not sure I sense the urgency from Heup that I would expect from a NC level coach in this or other situations.

Again, I do not share the OPs gloom, but to pretend there are not serious points of concern with the program and staff is foolish as well, IMHO.

I'm in Heup's camp and hope like heck (to borrow a Fulmerism) he gets it and we continue to climb.

Flame away, sunshine pumpers!! :)

Using that logic, Hawaii should be a football mecha where all the players want to go while Ohio State and Michigan shouldn't be able to recruit anyone.

lol yall need help. We just made the college playoff. We are doing well in all sports. Get off the thread and go take a walk or something. Yall are wild
Lot of fans feel if we do not win NC then it is a failure. I just enjoy the game and happy with our success last couple years. When you can watch a game and feel we have a chance to win, then that is a great feeling.

I wouldn't call it "not feasible" but at the moment, it is daunting. Keep in mind we were in similar predicaments in the 1980s but then Majors and Fulmer starting having consistent 10+ win seasons and eventually Tennessee became a "go to" recruiting place until it fell off in early 2000s.

It just takes winning and right effort. Keep in mind we are just now getting over the scholarship reductions from Pruitt. I think that is something the OP isn't considering.
Completely different eras than the Majors and Fulmer years. Let’s be honest, the SEC has never been close to being as strong as it is now from too top to bottom. I mean we have to recruit against UGA, Bama, LSU, TX, OU and AU. I mean think about it. Deboer is a good coach and looks to be able to keep Bama in the top 5. Smart isn’t going anywhere so UGA will always be top 5. Sark is killing it at TX. Kelly is doing great recruiting at LSU. And I get the bad feeling Napier is gonna have UF rolling in recruiting.

So where does that leave us? Again how do we realistically recruit in the top 3 in the SEC with those teams given we don’t really have any elite recruiters like they do?

JMO…

At some point Danny White is going to feel the heat, for giving coach Hype that long term contract extension. Especially in the department of recruiting.

Not to mention the conflict of intrest, of their personal relationship.
Having hired him before at another school is not a conflict of interest.

Your question contains the answer. If we had 4-5 Rodney Garners on staff, we would certainly be able to recruit with those teams. BUT, and its a big issue, Heupel doesn't fire anyone. If I am a position coach, and can pull in a solid $million a year and not be expected to really hit the recruiting trail (or worry too much about development, but that's a whole other issue) and be fairly certain I will never be fired, the average person is gonna coast. And THAT lack of urgency on staff is what I was talking about in my prior post.

Heup needs to review that staff list, both from recruiting and development, and light some fires. I'm just not sure that's in his wheelhouse. And in most instances, loyalty is a good thing. But as Johnny Majors once said, 'in this business hiring your friends will get ya fired' (or words to that effect. The man was dead on accurate.

Right.

At this rate, Josh Heupel will never win 10 games in a season, beat Alabama and Florida in the same season, take Tennessee to the College Football Playoff and finish a season ranked in the top 10. Hell, it's been so long since we accomplished ANY of those things, I've given up hope of them ever happening for us.

Indeed, it is time to wake up.
Just when I am convinced that you and I disagree on exactly 💯 of everything, you mess it up with a post like this.

I have been fortunate (or unfortunate, depending on viewpoint) to have been everywhere on that list save College Station. I'd put Austin as a nicer area than Knoxville, and PERHAPS Gainesville (the weather). But Tuscaloosa? Auburn? Athens? BR??? In no current universe or even in the Marvel multiverse are those places equal to Knoxville.

Just my .02

I happen to live in Gainesville and it is NOWHERE near as nice as KnoxVegas. If you don’t work for UF or in a start up at Sid Martin or the Incubator, you better be a doc or lawyer. A few good restaurants but other than somewhat milder winters, give me Knoxville

Top 3 in the SEC just isn’t realistic these days. It’s why Heupel is the perfect fit for Tennessee. He can win 7-8 games with regularity just because of the style offense he runs even without elite level talent. This is an upper mid tier, 9-3 type program that has the potential to occasionally hit 10 wins and make the playoffs. If the right pieces fall into place, we can win a championship but let’s keep it real with our expectations.

Why should DW be feeling the heat? CJH deserves the extension. Some of you people don't live in the real world.
