exactly. and i'm not saying it's right. it isn't. but it is the climate we live in today, sadly. people act like it's only been in the last 3-5 years this stuff has been happening. the reality....it's been happening for a LONG time and back then, there wasn't near the coverage or analysis or social media outlets to report every little thing that ever happens. the scrutiny that exists today vs. even 10 years ago is mindblowing.Therein lies the issue. Goodell underestimated the public backlash when he suspended Rice for 2 games and there were countless people calling for his head. In today's climate, no one is going to go out on any sort of a limb, especially a university employee. Erring on the side of caution is putting it mildly to say the very least.
Of course, the public attitude in this county is beyond hypocritical. Ray Rice said in his interview yesterday there is a case of sexual abuse every 12 seconds in America. That's a lot of laws being broken, a lot of people hurt, and you can't blame but a miniscule fraction on pro or college athletes. But, you don't hear crap about any of that except for the high profile cases found in the NFL or college football.
I guess this makes America feel like they've done something...then thousands upon thousands go home and abuse their wives or partners.
and some of it is a good thing. it is a good thing that light is being shed on this issue. and accountability is high. it's not a good thing that in the process, where there are legitimate innocent people involved, get dragged thru the mud and have to go thru this.
it's also not a good thing that it seems, if not all, at least a good portion of the motivation to correct the issue is PR or politically based.
but is the world we live in now.
