Von Pearson WILL NOT be charged

What that poster said about it being January is total BS. Now that he has been officially cleared I would expect something to come out from the University in a day or 2 one way or the other. He could have violated team or student conduct policy and that could be the holdup. But with being cleared I would expect news soon. GBO!

There is absolutely NO reason that University officials are not meeting right now. If there is a reason why he should not be reinstated, it needs to be settled THIS AFTERNOON and announced so the team can move on.

If there is no reason to not be reinstated, he needs to be dressed out and at practice in a couple hours.

One that comes to mind immediately is the fact that all Americans are supposed to have the right to a speedy trial. Implied in that is the length of an "investigation" into the facts or lack thereof concerning accusations made. It should never, EVER, take four months to gather "facts" in a case like this and four months emphatically IS NOT SPEEDY by any reasonable measure.

Also, all Americans are supposed to have the right to be considered innocent [meaning that they are not supposed to be PENALIZED prematurely, which Mr. Pearson most assuredly has been] until proven guilty.

Allow me to qualify the above: It doesn't mean necessarily, however, as others have stated, that he may not have violated team rules or university policies in other ways that are not criminally prosecutable. That may be what is going on now with the university's and Coach Jones' decision on whether or not to reinstate him.

No not really. I just think some people like to feed their own egos by allowing their imagination to run wild and think there is more to a story than there really is.Playing the semantics game over the DAs word is doing a disservice to a kid whose life was already improperly put on hold based on an accusation. A suspension should never happen without a charge. Period, end of story. Hopefully this botched attempt at overkilling the public perception of the university will teach the people in power this valuable lesson moving forward.

A lot of us saw this nonsense happen firsthand in our college days. Girl hooks up with guy. Girl may have boyfriend, feel bad about themselves the next day, too drunk, whatever and cries foul in an attempt to save face. This is where the difference between learning life in a lab and learning it through human interaction and experience come in handy. The latter provides a person with common sense and the ability to connect the dots and move on. As opposed to sitting around kicking the tires and wasting time worrying about how something is phrased.

I think this is right, but this focus on imaging at the expense of due process and our justice system is somewhat concerning. That's ultimately a bigger issue that has a lot to do with things besides this case, though.

Not with me. Because a kid's life is bigger than a game of football. And I couldn't careless about backlash. Most of the time backlash comes from people who don't have enough facts to even intelligently comment on a story.

i seriously don't get why everyone is so excited. "insufficient evidence" just means they couldn't find enough proof to prosecute. it doesn't mean that nothing happened, and he's completely innocent of all accusations.

From a legal standpoint Von HAS been presumed innocent. He was never charged with anything nor arrested or imprisoned. The rules of the University and/or the rules of our football program have absolutely nothing to do with our legal system. Just because Von isn't being charged with a crime doesn't mean there wasn't conduct unbecoming, which if there was I'm sure it is in the case file. I'd say before the University makes a decision one way or the other they will want to review it themselves. There's plenty of things you can do to get yourself kicked out of school that aren't illegal.

This is what everyone has to remember... Then add in title IX and the obligation that the university has to provide a comfortable learning environment. That answers all the questions as to how could he be innocent of the crime but not reinstated? IF there was some unbecoming behavior of any kind it could be enough to keep him from being reinstated and UT can't do anything about it.. Especially in today's current environment. Not saying what is or isn't fair but that's what we are dealing with.

Correct. This is only step 1. Much more to go. Also, not to throw cold water on this, but the DA stated not enough evidence to support prosecution. That is not saying he is innocent and we do not know what actually happened that night.

Von will have to have his interim suspension lifted by the school, be allowed to enroll for the fall semester, the AD will have to confirm he has met all academic requirements to be eligible for 2015 and then Butch can act.

OR, that violence against women is a huge issue in the NFL and on college campuses right now (135 investigations on 121 campuses), specifically with football players.

He was re-instated after a meeting with the appropriate university official that was in charge of such things. (Can't remember the actual person) Two days later the Assistant or Associate Dean of Student Conduct made the decision to re-suspend Von. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that if the suspension was lifted, it had to be for good reason. In other words, I don't think a university official would have lifted the suspension just because Von asked. I am also betting that the suspension was re-instated for political reasons i.e. The Justice Department's pressure and investigation of 121 universities for their handling of sexual assault. The person that over-ruled the lifting of the suspension needs to explain themselves and be subject to the Frankenstein pitchfork crowd now that we know that there was never even enough evidence to bring a filing of a charge, let alone evidence of criminal wrongdoing. Me thinks that person has a bit of egg on their face and we should be calling them out in public.

Neither can it be expedited simply because Von is a football player. The process will take it's natural course like it would with any student in this situation. If that process takes a week, two weeks, or a month who knows. However expediting it just because Von plays football is just as wrong as there being a "lack of urgency."

I wouldn't read too much into that. It's quite possible that Von requested a temporary reprieve from his suspension so that he could take finals, with full knowledge that the suspension would be put back in force as soon as he finished the exams.

As I noted in a previous post, Von had his suspension lifted and two days later a single individual re-suspended him. That indicates to me that this individual could just as easily and quickly lift the suspension again.
