Von Pearson Update

I love how we tear each other apart even in the face of good news.

Yep. I do understand why some have cautious optimism. With the federal investigation, it is possible that the administration will go overboard in trying to look thorough. Pearson should be reinstated, but it was never going to happen as soon as the press release came down, like in a movie.

I love the diatribe shredding me followed by the cute emoticon.

You're reading way too much into this. You won't find me burying a player ever. Hopefully, this is all behind us now and VP can go on with his life.

You're so uppity

I think you're dead on. They're going to make sure that they've followed policy and dotted all the i's.

How can you be punished for something you did NOT do?

The DA didn't say he didn't do it. He said "there's insufficient evidence to prosecute". Which might mean the young lady was presented with a deal and decided not to push forward with a criminal trial. I suspect you'll see civil proceedings though, which will probably be settled out of court.

So now someone can have any athlete accused of sexual assault and get them removed from campus. Wonder how many people will try this kind of stuff just to get players off the field of rival teams? They should be able to offer the alleged victim some kind of protection and allow the accused to continue going to school until proven guilty but I guess our Constitution no longer matters these days. This resembles the Duke Lacrosse case sham in 2006.

I'd listen to this guy. Dawg fans are well versed in player investigations.

I think I saw this play out on an episode of Law and Order............

As long as the alleged victim continues to claim she feels threatened, Von will never be allowed back on campus. It may take a payoff to get this resolved or Von will have to transfer.

They already shed a lot of light on it on the Swain Event. Read my post above.

If that's the case, why are they even discussing it? Seems like they would've cut ties regardless. Now they let it play out and he's beginning to look more and more innocent...Doesn't make sense to me.

Skeeter (guys usually posts decent info on here) said in another thread he'll be on the practice field by Saturday.

I don't know what to believe, but if it takes too long I certainly know who to call @jake

Do you remember the Paulk Incident. He was never charged either. But, he was not allowed to return to the team.

This tells me that despite the fact that no charges were filed against Paulk, Butch had enough information to know that he did not want Paulk to return to the team.

We can all make the assumption that Von Pearson did nothing wrong, since the Knox County DA says that there is insufficient evidence to support a charge. But, we still do not know what actually happened that night and we do not know what Butch has been told about it.

Based on that, i am cautiously optimistic that Pearson will be reinstated. But, i am not counting on it.

Not true.

Well that is basically how it went down. Now Von is at the mercy of the University to allow him back but if the alleged victim continues say she feels threatened then the University is required to keep him off campus unfortunately. The attorney on the Swain Event said it may come down to a lawsuit.

Against the alleged victim

They may be hoping that the alleged victim will drop her accusations against him.

People will refuse to listen to this. They have taken the DA's decision and made up their mind that nothing at all happened. We just dont know and the administration and Jones have a ton more info on the situation and what actually happened than any of us.

There was a guy claiming to be an attorney that called into Swain's show earlier that was saying that the only reason Von Pearson hadn't been reinstated was because the board of education had given notice to schools that in the event of an accusation like this, if the victim claims that he/she feels unsafe, then the accused must be removed from campus regardless of whether it was based in fact or whether the claim that he/she felt unsafe was legitimate. That's why Michael Williams was allowed to stay, because this rule was not in place at the time and the fact that it is now the new SOP is why Von is still out.

It was an interesting call at least. I have no idea if he was legit or if he was FOS but that would at least make a little sense out of what is keeping him out on the UT side.
