Yeah, that "innocent until proven guilty" is just so 18th century....why, who could expect to receive such protections/rights??
Reinstate the kid. Innocent until proven guilty. Just wrong to take this season away from him unless he's had his day in court.
I wonder if everyone would be so quick to use the "innocent until proven guilty" line if it was Nick Chubb or another valuable player on an opposing team?
I agree with this. Butch's investigation can't be controlled by the KPD investigation or a University Title IX investigation and vice versa. They must all remain separated for obvious reasons. Butch needs to do his due dilligence and I'm sure that he's done that at this point. If the KPD or the University has evidence that they want to share with Butch in order to help him make his decision then that would be welcomed I sure. At this point it seems safe to assume that based on the evidence that Butch has, there isn't enough evidence to warrant dismissal because if there was he would dismiss Von regardless of the separate legal case. E.g., see Williams and Johnson. At this point he either needs to be reinstated or dismissed. Should additional information become available later then the case can be reevaluated but Von nor the team should be held hostage by the KPD or Title IX, in my opinion.
I should add that I'm 100% in on CBJ but may disagree with him on this issue. I also may not have a clue what the real hold up is and will admit that.
I can't speak for everyone, but as for me the answer is unequivocally, yes, that player should be reinstated under these circumstances.
It's a frustrating situation, but police departments are under no obligation to provide information or progress reports on open investigations. KPD generally doesn't comment on ongoing investigations, so this isn't unusual. The investigation could be open a year from now, with no interim reports. When you have a high profile case with an accuser who wants to press charges, then the legal process can grind slowly.
Even if KPD closes their investigation, UTPD could leave their investigation active until the Federal investigation concludes. It has become a political hot potato.
Butch didn't reinstate Coleman Thomas until he was officially cleared. Don't expect a change.
Good point. Im not expecting a change and Butch knows how to run a program and I don't. Having said that, I still think I disagree with his policy that a police investigation has to reach its conclusion before allowing a player to play even though I may be speaking from an ignorant point of view.
Can someone please explain to me the basis for this ignorant viewpoint that the police department, or any police department gets some pleasure from arresting football players, or collegiate athletes? Or that they would intentionally drag out an investigation.
What would be the benefit of that??? Sorry but I don't get that.
I'm not sure that you were referring to my post and doubt it since I didn't say that or infer it in any way, however it was posted right after my post.
I don't believe KPD gets any pleasure from arresting football players and I don't have any basis for asserting that they intentionally drag out an investigation. That wasn't my point either. I have no idea why this or any investigation is taking so long. Perhaps the KPD is inept, perhaps they're understaffed, perhaps they don't care, or maybe witnesses aren't cooperating. I have no idea. My point was that I wish CBJ's policy wasn't to suspend a player until an outside agency concludes their investigation.
No no. It was in response to this and many others that say KPD targets athletes.
Holy **** man, I didn't say they target athletes. Read my above post. Saying they aren't fans and that they target athletes are two separate things. Not once did I say Von is being targeted or being made an example of. Don't twist words. If you don't think cops get tired of dealing with collegiate athletes though, you are wrong. I have seen cops first hand tell certain individuals to leave a party that these athletes were invited too.
He is innocent until proven guilty, but there can be repercussions for simply being accused. This reminds of the "free speech" advocates that get angry when someone is fired or ostracized for publicly voicing an opinion. Certainly, they can voice their opinion, but it may come at a cost.
Same thing here. He hasn't been jailed or even charged, but that doesn't mean their are no consequences.
I've painstakingly been following this thread, and to address the few new people that on occasionally jump on and ask or repeat already stated things...
NOTHING NEW has come out besides the original accusations months back.
No news from police, no news from team.
There is no trail, because he's never been arrested. ITS ALSO NOT RAPE he's being accused off.
If you want to go off hear say(only thing thus far we have) then all looks good.
In all reality time is all that's making people nervous, and the FEDS looking into UT(not the Von case specifically). The school shouldn't be to worried about the FED investigation when it comes to the Von case cause the school has handled it correctly from what appears.
The time aspect isn't fun but it's part of it. It's not hurting anyone in reality. It gives the school more ground to say "look we suspended him, let the police do their thing and nothing turned up. If anything turns up in the future we will go from there". But for us waiting makes people doubt along the way. It's like when I was purchasing my new truck, they went to ran my credit and I got nervous cause it took so long. I knew my credit was good, but the longer it took for the dealer to bring it back I some how got nervous for no reason:/
Oh and he could red shirt but it's not likely, he's getting alittle to far along in his college career to redshirt.
Sorry if I missed anything. Everyone relax, no news is good new sometimes. Couple that with not hearing a stitch of bad news.... I say things look better than worse
