Von Pearson Update

Damn I hope this is done one way or another by fall camp. I can't believe it has dragged on as long as it has.

I was talking to a friend about this the other day, if this was anyone else other than a football player, then SOME information would be known by now. I'm not saying he is wrongly being accused, because for all I know he did the crime, but the fact that an accusation has been floating in the air for close to 4 months without headway into the investigation just begs the question of if anything happened.

Let's be honest, cops aren't the biggest fan of college athletes. They probably feel no obligation to rush this case in time for him to play if he was innocent.

Plus, just a random thought as well, if I was the accuser and this had really happened, wouldn't I WANT some justice now?

Good points all around. I have no idea how long an investigation takes. But if I was wronged, the sooner the charges filed the better

I keep seeing "I think we'll hear this week." I'm thankful fall practice gets underway Monday so we can get some finality. If he's there I think he plays, if he's not... Time to move on.

Investigations can drag on indefinitely... and often do. The reason many investigations are closed quickly is because the accuser wants the case dropped and declines to press charges. That did not happen in this case. KPD goes the extra mile to prove that it doesn't kowtow to athletes or the UTAD, and the Tennessee media uses complaints involving football players as click bait, which cause weak, unsubstantiated cases to become high profile and remain open without progress.

IDT players are removed from the roster unless they're dismissed from the team. Since there's a RS option in play for Von, he'll probably stay on the roster this year unless he's expelled from UT or charged with a crime.

Good points, but the fact still remains that it's been very close to 4 months now and there has been almost zero progress in the investigation. Investigations often do drag on as you have stated, but also even some of the longest cases have had more frequent updates in the proceedings.

This most certainly isn't a cut and dry case, but at the same time it doesn't seem to be all that intricate either. They have a clear suspect, a clear accusation and victim, and others things among that. It doesn't seem like it would take this long to substantiate the claim or to dismiss it unless they were just purposely dragging ass on it. I'm not saying it needs to or should have been solved by now, but there should be more information on this than what we have been given.

Reinstate the kid. Innocent until proven guilty. Just wrong to take this season away from him unless he's had his day in court.

Coach has to protect the program...he's been covering every base and we're still being Title IX investigated. Reinstating a player before he's been cleared is program suicide. :hi:

I wonder if everyone would be so quick to use the "innocent until proven guilty" line if it was Nick Chubb or another valuable player on an opposing team?

This has kind of been my thinking, but at some point, enough is enough. I am very happy that we don't carry on like Florida State, at some point though, reasonable cause should be provided.

If allegations or charges turn out to be rape, then all time needed should be taken. If this turns out to be indecent exposure with only five witnesses to interview, maybe it is time that we start to question certain things.

You play a kid and he's indicted for rape/sexual assault? You're on trial right with him. Butch ain't doing that.

It's a frustrating situation, but police departments are under no obligation to provide information or progress reports on open investigations. KPD generally doesn't comment on ongoing investigations, so this isn't unusual. The investigation could be open a year from now, with no interim reports. When you have a high profile case with an accuser who wants to press charges, then the legal process can grind slowly.

Even if KPD closes their investigation, UTPD could leave their investigation active until the Federal investigation concludes. It has become a political hot potato.

Yeah, that "innocent until proven guilty" is just so 18th century....why, who could expect to receive such protections/rights??
