Von Pearson Update

Hey guys, I have no updates. I just thought I'd bump the thread, so people would click to see a bunch of nothing like I've done everyday. Carry on. :)

Any chance Butch thinks twice before voluntarily suspending players over allegations from this point on?

This tactic just gives psychotic females WAY too much power. The sad truth to that is that the football player doesn't even have to be there for an allegation to occur.

I hope Von has been working out because it looks like this thing is dead.

The Jennings fiasco has also faded.

Looks like we will be at full strength in fall camp.

IMO it's the only way to act. Better to let the law work things out first than to let a rapist back into the fold on a hunch. It's the only way Butch can show that he's serious about protecting the integrity of the program.

There are so many different ways to act, this isn't the only one. You're labeling him a rapist merely on allegations when there haven't been any formal charges. You say "let him back into the fold", but he's not "out of the fold". He's not detained or locked up in some jail so it's not like he's being "let go" from somewhere. He's simply been banned from team activities. This doesn't help anyone or achieve anything, it just sends a player into limbo.

I don't think that's what he meant. It looks as if he is saying it's better to find out if there is any truth to the allegations first. If not, let him resume normal play but letting him play then finding out he is guilty (if), would be worse.. I'm not giving my opinion on what they should do, just what the other poster is saying.

I agree, Coug. It is PC/activist propaganda that there is "only one proper response." That's complete and utter nonsense. If I were the coach, my approach would probably differ depending on the particular circumstance, but I don't like Butch's seemingly blanket rule to suspend first and ask questions later.

Butch goes into all these living rooms and sells these kids on it being "family"--like Butch will be their "dad away from home." And then some girl he doesn't know from Adam reportedly accused one his players/"sons" of something and his immediate reaction is to throw the player under the bus. But it's OK--commendable even--because it's only "temporary" if the accusation turns out to be unfounded. Except if this had happened in September--whoops, Von just missed his whole senior season. Is that how you treat family? You don't trust them? You don't have their backs? You take any and all accusations at face value and immediately cut them off--but it's all good because you might take them back a year later once it all blows over?

Of course, he should simultaneously be harping on the importance of being a grown-up and obeying the law and respecting others and so on and so forth, but where I come from, Butch's current approach to these kinds of things doesn't sound much like "family."

We have utterly no idea what Butch knows about these cases. He certainly has far more access to information than any of us. He could fill buckets with the information he has that we don't, in each and every case.

You either trust the head coach of your program to do the right thing for the players and the program, or you don't. But either way, don't even begin to pretend to know enough to make the decisions yourself.

Even though odds are that some player/s may be wrongfully accused at (this) or some point, this approach does seem to display a "values" way of doing things.
