Vols Practice thread #1

Go back and watch the USCe game from last year. Of the 7 or so sacks that JG ate, 1 was a completely unblocked linebacker on a 5 man rush, 2 were the o-line collapsing 3 seconds after the snap, 1 was the oline collapsing immediately after the snap, and 3 were Guarantano running out of the pocket, and holding onto the ball instead of throwing it away.

The o-line was not good, and collapsed plenty of times, but pretending that every sack that JG ate was their fault, just isn't true.

I never said every sack he took was the OL's fault. Don't me wrong, JG is not the second coming of Manning and has tons of room for improvement. QBs do need to be able to trust the line to hold up though and they rarely did last year. Hopefully our current offensive coaches can get more out of him this year.

I also think it is unfair to put all of the blame on the offensive line. I think it is fair to place the Lion Share of the blame on the confusion the offense had to where any kind of cohesive operation was impossible

Ultimately, it's the combination of hiring Don Mahoney and Walt Wells to develop the o-line, coupled with a non-existent S&C program, and a garbage offensive scheme.

Though, none of that changes the fact the Guarantano struggled to work through his progressions and get rid of the ball quickly last year, even when the o-line did give him protection. Hopefully he's improved in that area now that he has an actual QB coach.

First practice starts at 2:50 pm today. I'll update this thread.

Agreed. Wells was even worse than Mahoney,

The tweets aren't loading on my browser for some reason.

Tweets might not be loading because your browser is telling the truth whereas mine is lying. Mine insists it can't load the tweets because popup and ads protection needs to be disabled. But the tweets load anyway. In your case, you might need to disable certain privacy functions.

I hate the black outlines..... hopefully it's for the practice jerseys only...

I feel like it’s a nostalgia thing, as well as getting this team as far away from
The butch era as possible, even going as far as changing jersey color schemes and losing The smoky greys. Pruitt and Fulmer wanted a complete reset IMO. I think it’s good though, embrace our history.

You may be right. I'll look into. Thanks chief.

It's really a practical thing too. Hard to read the numbers, particularly in person. I wonder if the names will have black outlines too?
