Did UT Treat Jancek Unfairly?

Very interesting timing of this dismissal in relation to signing day. I wonder if CBJ is going to bring in a 'splashy' hire that will sway recruits off the fence? I don't have any names in mind but I am always a fan of raiding the NFL. That is a selling point to the 4 and 5 stars: "Our guys know the league and can get you there." Should be interesting to see what happens.

7th best team defensively in the SEC. Butch must have realized that we probably need to finish top 5 in order to be where we want to be next season. All I can say is that he better already have a good idea of who he wants to replace him, and he better be a homerun hire. Jancek was a pretty good DC, and to truly upgrade that position you need to get a guy like Shoop, Chavis, etc. Proven DC's, not a defensive positions coach because we all remember how that turned out. We truly need a homerun hire to be where we want to be next season. If we do not have a great hire I see another 8-4 season next year. Need a proven guy who can get us to elite defensive status.

Not if you heard the supposed story as to why he got fired. Essentially in one of the games after USC let go of sarkisian(sp?) they got ran over by some team, either oregon or stanford, due to the fact that one of the opposition's electric players kept getting wide open. A reporter on the sideline quoted the conversation between USC's interim coach and Wilcox, essentially the interim coach asked Wilcox who was responsible for covering a specific play and Wilcox replied he didn't know. No clue if thats true or not, just sharing the story. FWIW I'm not pulling for one person or another, just gonna ride this out and hope for the best.

Also in the infamous 13 man D against LSU? Dooley took the heat but that was on Wilcox.

He's not an upgrade...if you put Jancek and him side by side, I'd go with Jancek.

Wilcox had UT a top 20 defense with far less talent and a FAR worse offense. He is an upgrade. That being said, I have been impressed with Jancek especially in the last half of the season. He has become more aggressive on 3rd downs and the production is undeniable. My fear is that this aggressiveness is what Butch doesn't like and is firing him for.

This explains the Kongbo decommitment story in today's KNS and good luck to Jancek wherever he goes.

getting an offer from USCw and being 2,000 miles closer to his home in British Columbia had everything to do with that, not Jancek. Geeshh:banghead2:

Don't really get this one. I thought Jancek was doing a pretty darn good job. If we lose Martinez too, that will suck.

Wilcox is a West Coast guy.

Doubt he would make another trip East.

Well, we need to raise assistants salaries if that's an issue. It's ridiculous the amount of money this program takes in, especially when successful, and they want to go bargain basement on coaching salaries.

Guys, you're floating all these names out there and CBJ might get someone from inside the program and just replace them. Perhaps, Strip, or Thig? Just throwing that out there for considerstion. Matthews said that CBJ doesn't believe in salaries more than 500 to 600,000. That won't get you a very "famous" DC name. Maybe someone from a small school again.

Then he can give 3 MM back each year.
