do you have an example of where this site effected Tennessee recruiting
The OP used an example of a Wisconsin recruit not going to that BCS bowl school because of message boards. Somehow he felt giving that example would help arguing the other way. Darn glad he isn't my lawyer!
To answer your question I don't know of any just like you don't of any that have said the other way. What I do know is AN AD OFFICE WORKER AT EVERY SEC SCHOOL IS ASSIGNED TO FIND USABLE MESSAGE BOARD MATERIAL TO RECRUIT AGAINST THEIR COMPETITORS! How many kids are effected by that tactic I don't know but it is used. Oh and it worked against a BCS bowl team! Thanks to the OP we know that! Lol

For someone that works in recruiting for a living, you sure are paranoid. If you work in recruiting for a living, you should A) know these types of things happen all the time and B) be smart enough to understand that if another program wants to lure a player away, there are far more damaging facts about our program. That is always the last ditch arguing effort. If you don't believe it your living under a rock. Larry got on here and said it yesterday. Is Larry creditable? I work in recruiting for a living. I am guessing you know more than Larry or someone that's job depends on winning in recruiting!

I never claimed to know more about recruiting than anyone. I was just simply curious if that was a real job for someone. I was wondering if you had any proof that kind of job existed. You don't. Oh, except what you heard through the grapevine. Oh wait I forgot, you work in recruiting. You should easily be able to provide that information to me. I'll wait. Thanks.
If I was a recruit and they pulled up a bunch of message board quotes to try and sway me, I would see that as really desperate. Like I said, there are far greater things to use against at the moment. Thanks for sharing the post though.I am not claiming that every recruit we lose is because of this site. In fact I would say its very minimal. I am saying it is a tactic used in recruiting. To say otherwise is not accurate. Below I am pasting Larry's post yesterday about the matter.
LWSVOL,
they have student managers to do that. print off fans comments and put on coaches desk to take with them on recruiting trips...
you get print outs from 4 or 5 different sites of coaches being fired and you ahve a dozen different schools with that information showing it, yeah it gets in their minds.
been going on ever since these sites have been around... I've seen the printouts that recruits gave our staff in the past when asking them if true or not..
it happens. not just to UT but to any school where staff is under fire from fans..
now, some coaches do read message boards. quite a few actually.

Really getting tired of threads and posts whining and moaning about how negative message board content on VN is driving away recruits. Yes, I'm fully aware of the Wisconsin kid de-committing based on getting his feelings hurt on their board. But that was a rare case and it simply is nowhere near the norm. In my opinion this lamenting by homers as another lame attempt to shut down criticism of Dooley and the program and I absolutely reject it. I and others will speak our minds whenever we feel like it about whatever we want related to UT athletics. By the way, UT wasn't the only team to not meet expectations of the fanbase this year.....and do you think their message board content is clean as the wind-driven snow? Give me a break - criticism and honest critique of the program is everywhere across the country on the D1 level on message boards. Do you honestly think that only teams who exceeded expectations this year are having good recruiting success? Malarky. Homers need to grow up and accept that not everyone is going to agree with them and their "real fan" analysis' all the time. So let's please stop with the sanctimonious attitude about message board content and the impact it has on the program, because it's just plain absurd
Rest easy. I can guarantee you that we're losing certain recruits because Tennessee is a terrible football program right now. Not because of what anyone has said on here or any other site for that matter. How do you know it is a rare case? Losing any recruit because of negative posts on message boards is one too many. Not many recruits will come out and state they change their committment because of negative messages on boards. That would only draw more negative messages toward that recruit. I would say that negative messages creates negative thoughts by the recruit toward the "fan" base. I know, some like to get their jollies by being negative. That is just the way some people are.

Big difference between a tenured HC who had years of recruiting and building depth, talent and failing to do his job and a coach who inherited a dumpster fire with little to no talent and has been on the job for 2 years.
I also was around during the time when Dickey was the HC and Battle came in and left the program with not a lot to work with. The rebuild job that Majors had to do was not as difficult as the one DD is trying to do.

Some people have to call it the way they see it and it does not make them any less a fan than someone who throws on the orange colored glasses and refuses to acknowledge that something needs fixing. I don't understand how some posters come to the conclusion that people who have spend countless hours on this board over a period of several years are not dedicated fans who want the best for the program. People who don't give a hoot about the Vols don't tend to stay here very long. How do you know it is a rare case? Losing any recruit because of negative posts on message boards is one too many.
