Vast Improvement over last week

At this point, who can tell if the offensive coaches are worth a darn? The stench of Butch Jones, John Currie, Dave Hart, and Derek Dooley is still so strong that everything is unclear. These are Butch’s recruits who got ZERO development in the last few years - and they had to absorb the loser culture that Jones sold. And Derek Dooley not recruiting a single o-line prospect for one of his years is still having an impact today.

Defense got run over in last 10 minutes and gave up 38. I don’t know how you can call that improvement.

Sure they got run on late, the D also been on the field much of the game. In large part that's where the O put them, and Banks (offense) put it on the ground for a short field.

You can complain about a lot in this game, but not the D. They wore down sure, but showed a lot of heart and fire. Offense didn’t help the case much. Georgia’s last two touchdowns (and first fluke td) were pretty unimpressive. Swings. what looks on the scoreboard to be +7 for Georgia actually is +10 or 14 bc our O lost momentum. It was really a Two score type of game.

Yeah, we can still complain about the defense. If we don't lead all of FBS in missed tackles at this point, I'd be astounded.

Georgia had 25 first down, were 8-14 on 3rd down, 410 total yards, 220 of those were rushing, and they scored 38 points on us, 3 less than last year.

Is that in improvement over the Florida game, sure since Florida is trash, and Georgia isn't, but is it an improvement over week 1 against WVU, nope.

D line play ?

It is a 60-minute game. But, according to you, it is okay if we have a defense that can only compete for 50 minutes. Those last 10 minutes are just too tiring.

Defense has steadily improved each week (even a little for Florida game). They just need to keep improving and I expect they will as they become more comfortable with the system. Now they just need the offense to get more 1st downs and points so they won't be so winded in the 4th quarter.

OL appeared to pass block better this week but run blocking needs major improvement in order for us to be more competitive.

Today's performance provides a glimmer of hope for SC, KY and Vandy

I'm not impressed at all with JG though

The play calling will take away any chance this team has in being successful on any level.

The coaches are just bad. Somehow, Tennessee keeps finding coaches that are worse than the garbage they fired.

Through the first half of GA. Yes, I know we are down #17 but I, for one am MUCH happier with the play so far than last week. Our guys are still making a bunch of unforced errors for missed formation but at least I can see some FIGHT in guys.

I LOVE the pressure we are bringing on the QB and it is paying off with a number of plays where he was thinking about getting hit instead of getting rid of the ball.
I love the fact that we have only 1 sack so far and our o-line is protecting JG much better.
We are actually holding on to the ball this week.
We are beginning to HIT them - not as often as I would like and we are still learning to wrap up with whatever new contact rules are in place - but we are beginning to hit and tackle a bit more than before. They no longer run through us like swiss cheese.
We are getting beat by better players but unlike in the last few games, it feels like our team is at least on the field and fighting for a win.

For those of you sourpusses hyperventilating because we are losing, GA comes into this game (and will likely leave it) as ranked #2. What the hell did you expect by a team that won ZERO SEC games last year? Being honest, I knew we were going to lose this but I just wanted to see some improvement to give me hope for when we get to teams we SHOULD beat.

Now that JG has a pocket for a bit, I would like to see some improvement there. I see people griping about Helton's play calling, and you may be right, but I am guessing this last week's focus was on protecting the QB and giving him time. That is happening. Hopefully, they will actually get to practice some other plays going forward. I wouldnt expect much tho. Helton is likely going to just try to get them to execute vanilla stuff reliably and then use the few twists they have on later teams that we have a shot with, KY MS, SC, etc.

Dont know how the rest of the game goes but I am really glad to see that GA didnt blow our doors off in the first QTR. I still expect them to score 35-10 by the end.
We take our victories where we find them, I guess. I do think there was some improvement in certain aspects. to me our improvement was marginal. Particularly disappointed in tackling on defense. It seems this team is incapable of good tackle technique. Which seems very odd for what we know about Pruitt.

Yes they did and our QB held the ball too long when he had good time and threw to the wrong receivers in most situations. He's a very slow decision maker. He throws short all the time. He underthrew the long TD that was wide freaking open. Luckily he had beaten the defense so badly that he could wait for the ball.

Man I am sorry but I don’t see how you can support the coach hate. CJP has just coaached his 5th game against the no. 2 team in the country on their home field. He hasn’t had but one abbreviated recruiting period. But sure, let’s fire him and start this whole $hit show over again. I swear.

OK... to get perspective back on how the game is meant to be played... turn on SCar vs KY. Both teams are actually trying to score when they have the ball.

People still doubting and complaining....question for you.....

Is this Tennessee Team better or worse than the one that gave up 41 to Georgia at home last year?

I'll hang up and listen
Me too....I’m still listening. Haven’t heard any of those bandwagon fans reply yet.

Fear is fear... CJP is either scared or incompetent...

The offense is averaging 15.7 points per game against Power 5 competition.

Defense is giving up 41.7.

That is not the improvement we are looking for.

Numbers don’t lie.

Not a bandwagon fan, but maybe you should start reading instead of listening. I posted on this subject. Quoted above.

Where GA's RBs literally drug all of them for 4-8 yards to extend drives? I mean, I guess they didn't look as bad as they did against Florida. I just don't see tackling improving at all, and it's the most frustrating aspect to watch us fail at, given that Pruitt is our head coach.
I felt Tuttle and Johnson had solid games like always. But our pass rush was real. Uga had to account for it. It will be a factor for the rest of the season. Our ends were beating them off the ball and were hitting and pressuring Fromm from the start.

Sure the D has got to play for 60 minutes. I still think they need help, like what they may get from the next recruiting class. They can certainly tackle better. But I saw some improvement, some good plays on the edge, QB pressure, and coverage sacks. But the O has got to show up, like gaining more than 66 yards on 25 carries, doing better than 2 for 10 on third downs, improving their time of possession (D played 37 min, O 22 min) and not turning it over on our side of the field. Sure D still has a way to go, but damn, the O hangs them out to dry a lot.

I don’t disagree with that. Not at all.

Yeah, we definitely did pressure Fromm more than we did Grier.

Way better. I was at that game and this was a 12 point game with three minutes left. That one was over before half time.

DL and OLBs had tackles today: Kongbo with 5 and Phillips with 7, A. Johnson had 7 and D. Taylor was disruptive in the backfield with 6 solo tackles. Bituli had 8 to lead team.

Correct. I will always support my Vols but that doesn't mean we keep trying to put lipstick on this pig. I want Pruitt to succeed but nothing he has shown me thus far gives me any hope he will

Improving doesn’t mean we’re back. Dang, you need a break. We still suck but I expected the spread to be covered easily and with less than half of the 4th quarter left, we were within two scores and should’ve been 10 points despite the crap strip sack play. We did not give up 600 yards to the team that will win the east this year like we have been doing in the past. It was better but we haven’t arrived. Jury is still out on Pruitt and it should be. It’s only game five. Don’t be so ignorant.
