Vandy loses top defender- Getting thin on roster minimums

If I were Vanderbilt, I’d just forfeit. There’s no point in playing these games when you have a severely depleted roster and no HC.

They will cancel this game. I hope they do. IF Tenn were to beat Vandy; with all their issues, what positive would that be? None.

Vandy cancels Thursday or Friday. We get another bye week, then close out agaist A&M on 19th. If A&M beats us by 30+, then question becomes what will power players do. NO Vandy game to be Pruitt 's life line. While no one is happy with the team's progress, many will argue that we need to see this team lead by another QB. Also the $$$ is a factor. UTAD closed out last year with like $10M in reserves, Cocky had $40M. And there is apparently not enough support from power players to hire Freeze, particularly Fulmer. So IMO, you have to decide if feel like you would be 100% comfortable with who you would be hiring, in order to do all that. I mean Cocky just paid all that scratch to get Shane Beamer. Maybe you are comfortable with shelling out just to end up with Napier or a McGoogle.

At this point we can surmise that Fulmer is Bamboozled by Pruitt. Let THAT soak in.

You really believe that our players and recruits are so dumb, as to believe that beating Vandy, after their coach was fired and half the team opted out, is anything more than the bare minimum expectation for Tennessee?

Has nothing to do with that. Its about out new QB(s) getting reps and completions to get a rhythm and confidence going - AND getting the 3rd win needed (presumably) to get a bowl game. Do we "deserve" a bowl game? NO - but who cares? Its about getting desperately needed practices for the new QBs and a game with them at the helm with competition that is solid but not a top 10 team.

Our head coach definitely doesn't deserve a $200,000 "bonus" for getting his 3-7 (hopefully) team to a garbage bowl.

As to the practices, given the level of regression we've seen from 2019 to 2020, I'm not convinced that more practice with this staff will be helpful, and could actually speed up the regression we've seen to this point.

No that would be worse. But would beating a team with half a roster mean a thing? Would this classify as a “job saving win?”

There is no need for a “ job saving win” if you’re safe in your job. CJP is NOT getting fired. AD Fulmer makes that call and he is 100% behind CJP. Now you can blow up, complain , moan, and throw keyboard and radio talk show tantrums if you like, ( hint: it won’t do a thing) or you can accept it and hope CPF is right.

You only get like 5 additional practices... bowl games start like a week after we play A&M. There isn’t as much of an advantage to it this year.

He doesn’t make that call alone. Not how it works.

Who, the Chancellor and President are both big time supporters of CPF, and the Athletic Board of Trust , is made you now of people who helped get the Haslams out, get Curry fired, get the past Pres to resign, and PUT CPF Back in at the top.. These are his people and he is their guy!!

100% agreed on bonuses. Pruitt will be back next year, lets get over that. QBs did not get a lot of practice. Too many players practicing for JG screwed them but I do believe having a good QB will make a difference. Will we turn all American overnight? no, but it will be orders of magnitude better.

With tracing and all this other crap, you would be surprised how much 5 practices is relative to how much they have practiced. And they need as many as possible with Bailey getting first team reps now. Not saying that this year isnt messed up but 5 extra practices and a game against medium competition would help cement HB a LOT I think.

Pruitt does not want to play the Vandy game.

1. We lose—he is gone
2. we win—was against a team with no players. He will be back.
3. We do not play—he will get a pass and be back in 2021

Correct to an extent. You are looking at it skin deep though. Randy Boyd cares about what is best for that university. He is a former ceo so his loyalty is based on results. I don’t know if you saw Phil in the box the other night but he doesn’t look like a guy who’s sitting and enjoying a comfortable chair right now. If you don’t think that he’s not getting serious concerns brought up to him you’re naive my friend. I’m not saying that Pruitt will be fired but it’s not hunky dory for anyone and they will cut anchor. This is a business.

Personally, I don’t want this game to be played. Pruitt isn’t getting fired, but I don’t want to spend all off-season hearing Fulmer and Pruitt use a victory against a decimated and winless Vandy squad with no head coach as evidence of why this team is getting better.

I hope it gets cancelled so that life line isn’t there to be utilized.

I understand, but CPF has no desire to fire CJP, and his bosses are not going to demand it, not this year. Also CPF is still recovering from Covid so he is not going to look too good for a while.

My point is I 100% believe that no matter what happens the next 2 or 3 games.. CJP WILL NOT BE FIRED.!

And with that we have two choices, we can complain and hope he and Tenn continue to suffer till he is forced out and players WILL leave forcing a complete 4-6 year rebuild , OR
We can hope CPF is correct and we start to see real success and progress at a program we all love!

Pruitt can be fired, although I think he will have to completely implode even more as well as lose current players and recruits. I also believe that there are coaches that could flip the program around in 2 years. Not every coach means it’s an automatic 4-6 year rebuild.

If it happened and Fulmer does not want to be nxt he can’t hire a wait and see guy or McGoogle. He would need freeze or he should just start packing now

I’m from Nashville, you don’t have to live around these Vandy folk like we do.
I don’t care if they put Nuns, orphans, and WW1 vets out there wearing black and gold, I wanna see Tenn Stomp their As$!!!!. No worse feeling in the world than to lose to them. (And their offense will score some points, they can throw slants and wheel routes!)

Former UT great player/coach George Cafego used to address the team b4 Vandy game every year. He’d remind them why Gen Neyland was hired, to beat Vandy, and how that is foundational to everything Tenn does now! Then he would say “ I’d rather have a daughter working in a New Orleans Bordello (ho house) than a son who is the starting QB at Vandy!”
Trust me Vandy would extend Tenn no sympathy or mercy if situation was reversed. Then their fans would be like this annoying little chihuahua yapping and trying to bite your ankles for the next 12 months.!
Screw Vandy!! Beat their Arse!

What after watching the last 4 Hires What makes you think Tenn would spend the kind of money it would take to land a coach like that?. Tenn went to Mullen first and offered him somewhere around 4 mil which was almost double his pay at MISSST, Florida got in the game and offered him close to 7.5 mil.

I don’t have faith Tennessee can make a good hire. I know the hire they should make and who could get it done but I never said they will make that hire. At some point Tennessee will realize they have to leave the bargain bin and actually pay for quality. Tennessee has to stop buying Geo Metros and hoping they become corvettes.

The fist step in making a quality coaching hire, is firing Fulmer as AD, and hiring someone actually qualified for the position.

You entirely missed my point, but that's ok. Let me rephrase it. Losing leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Winning does the opposite, even if it's against a horrible team. After losing 6 straight, this team just needs to win a game. That doesn't mean that recruits or players are going to pull some unrealistic conclusion from beating a horrible team, but it would just be better going into early signing day having won a game instead of being on a losing streak...especially if you did it with new/young QBs after having pretty rough QB play for over a year. The players have also kept working and keep playing hard each game, so you can bet that they really want to go win a game no matter who it is against.

Also, I just want to see this team get one more win before the end of the season. It's been miserable for everyone. The least they could do is kick Vanderbilt while they're down.
