Vandy loses top defender- Getting thin on roster minimums

If I were Vandy I would fill the stadium with all 1500 of their fans and make us earn this win. We will make their freshman QB into a heisTman candidate in one game (slants and wheel routes).

Vandy losing a defender is akin a tree shedding a leaf.
Who's going to notice?

I don't care how depleted Vandy is, the game needs to be played. Our players need a win and some confidence, especially HB and Shrout, if we want to compete against A&M. Pruitt isn't going anywhere unless they lose to Vandy. Might as well get the last two games in and treat them as a primer to get some young guys experience heading into what will hopefully be full spring practices. Grabbing a win right before early signing day, also a potential blowout, could help calm down a few recruits. There's no benefit for UT in not playing this game.

You really believe that our players and recruits are so dumb, as to believe that beating Vandy, after their coach was fired and half the team opted out, is anything more than the bare minimum expectation for Tennessee?

I don’t want to beat a team this decimated.

I don’t understand this. Most people, including recruits don’t have any idea how decimated Vandy is or isn’t. It’s good optics for us if we get a blowout. It’s valuable reps for the young guys. And it’ll be great for my wallet when I bet the Vols.

We didn’t have any players out. We just suck. Would beating a bad Vandy team with half a roster save this season? Of course not. Folks are saying it should save Pruitt’s job.
Well to be fair if he loses to this Vandy team he deserves to be fired so they are kinda right.

Gotta image this game will be cancelled, right? Why would Vandy even want this game?

This should be an easy win. However, I’ve been burned many times in the past saying that.

Why wouldn’t Vandy want this game? They’re not supposed to be UT, so no pressure to win. If they do win, it’ll be an early Christmas present for them and might get their interim a full time HC gig

I honestly wish the game would get cancelled. If we hammer them fulmer will put out a statement saying we’re back and will probably extend Pruitt. And Pruitt will lecture the media about how it was a process and we’re young but we’ve clearly turned a corner etc.

In fact, it could be argued that simply winning is not enough. If Tennessee doesn't blow them out, it will be viewed negatively by many.

This Vandy team already was the worst Vandy team since the Watson Brown days. They've already fired Mason, and now they are almost barely fielding a team. You say there is no benefit, so what happens if we don't blow that Vandy team out? What if it's just barely winning? Losing to TAMU surprises no one and no one will be shocked if we get run out of the stadium. But even a very close W over Vandy will feel like a loss given they are terrible and not even remotely full strength.

So actually, there might be benefit to not playing.

I do feel the SEC moving games today. They need Texas AM game with Ole miss to happen so either they swap games again or cancel TN game with A&M for the 19th to play Kiffen. In CHRIST Alone

Vandy cancels Thursday or Friday. We get another bye week, then close out agaist A&M on 19th. If A&M beats us by 30+, then question becomes what will power players do. NO Vandy game to be Pruitt 's life line. While no one is happy with the team's progress, many will argue that we need to see this team lead by another QB. Also the $$$ is a factor. UTAD closed out last year with like $10M in reserves, Cocky had $40M. And there is apparently not enough support from power players to hire Freeze, particularly Fulmer. So IMO, you have to decide if feel like you would be 100% comfortable with who you would be hiring, in order to do all that. I mean Cocky just paid all that scratch to get Shane Beamer. Maybe you are comfortable with shelling out just to end up with Napier or a McGoogle.

Vandy is going to cancel a day of the week? Would not surprise me for those arrogant know it alls to try.

And with the power players you speak of? I feel if they keep thing up, we are a few years closer to Neyland Stadium being converted into a soccer stadium, and the future recruiting footprint to include Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Italy, Germany, and Mexico.

Get in good voice... We Are The World. C'Mon everybody sing.

Can't lose this one. No way, no how. Just not possible that they're so bad and uninspired as to lose to Vandy Saturday. Impossible.
