Vandy loses top defender- Getting thin on roster minimums

You entirely missed my point, but that's ok. Let me rephrase it. Losing leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Winning does the opposite, even if it's against a horrible team. After losing 6 straight, this team just needs to win a game. That doesn't mean that recruits or players are going to pull some unrealistic conclusion from beating a horrible team, but it would just be better going into early signing day having won a game instead of being on a losing streak...especially if you did it with new/young QBs after having pretty rough QB play for over a year. The players have also kept working and keep playing hard each game, so you can bet that they really want to go win a game no matter who it is against.

Also, I just want to see this team get one more win before the end of the season. It's been miserable for everyone. The least they could do is kick Vanderbilt while they're down.

Oh, I understand completely what you meant in your previous post, I just don't agree with you.

I do not believe that beating an overmatched Vandy, with an interim head coach, with half their team opted out, will have any measurable effect on improving team morale at this point. I don't hold our players in such low regard to believe that they are under the impression that beating a winless Vanderbilt in this situation isn't the bare minimum of expectations.

Vandy has beat us with JG at QB how many times? If we play JG you could call it even against 5 on defense. A little sarcasm, just hate losing over and over again to lessor teams. Praying for too many miracles these days. Need some relief.

Ummm guys.... we might be playing Ohio State.

The Michigan-Ohio State game was cancelled 3 hours ago. Ohio State must play another game to qualify for the playoffs.... If Vandy can't go, we could end up playing the Buckeyes unless they can find a worse team than us.

Michigan-Ohio State game called off for Sat.

What are you talking about? Why would we be playing OSU? We're scheduled to play Vandy.

If anything, TAMU who lost their game with Ole Miss this weekend will play them. Both OSU and TAMU need that game for different reasons.

If Vandy can't go, we'll play someone else. I wasn't aware of Ole Miss cancelling.

Ohio State has to play 6 games to be eligible for the playoff. They're game is cancelled. They've got to find a team who has also been cancelled on and make another game happen. The BYU vs Coastal Carolina game was the result of Liberty cancelling. My guess is that OSU would be willing to pay good money for a short notice game. But you're right, we'll obviously take care of the SEC first and do what we can for A&M.

I'll reiterate what I said, because you don't seem to understand.

We're currently scheduled to play Vanderbilt. It has not been cancelled.

TAMU had their game cancelled today. OSU had their game cancelled today. Both TAMU and OSU need a game to get playoff consideration.

Do the math.

I'll also reiterate, because you seem too stubborn to see things outside your little box. Vanderbilt is barely hanging on and could cancel the game any moment. Ohio State will be looking for someone to play. I suggested that "someone" could be us if our game with Vanderbilt is cancelled. However, I did not know Ole Miss had cancelled on A&M. In that case, if our game is cancelled, the SEC will simply reschedule our previously postponed game with A&M for Saturday. I can see where A&M would rather play Ohio State, but Ohio State would never agree to it. They'll want a cupcake.

My math is just fine, thanks.

Purdue cancelled practice today, if that game vs Indiana is cancelled would they let OSU play Indiana twice ?

Chris Lee was on the radio earlier today discussing Vandy's struggles with even fielding any semblance of a team this Saturday. The SEC should not allow this game to happen for actual player safety reasons. They don't have enough real players to field a competent team. Half of the 40 or so available players are at least somewhat injured. The SEC should see what's going on with Ohio State and pull the plug on our game with Vandy and let us play A&M this week so A&M can still play Ole Miss next weekend and get a full allotment of games in. With OSU having no more games than they do it would be a good look for A&M to finish out the year strong and potentially getting that 4th playoff seed for the SEC.

This is one year that CFB - if it were ever going to happen - should have had an 8 team playoff. We could have seen Coastal Carolina and Cincinnati with a chance against the big dogs and it would have been fun.

Clearly you don't understand what I meant, but that's ok. Maybe they'll cancel the game, go get beat the next weekend by A&M, carry a 7 game losing streak into the offseason, and then you'll be happy.

What measurable impact do you see a win over Vanderbilt having on this team? Do you think they will play A&M differently after beating a winless Vandy? Is going 3-7 somehow better if for 7 days we are 3-6 before our 7th loss to A&M?

I'm impressed by your ability to craft an argument for me and then try to argue against it. You should be a politician. By all means, answer those questions for me and continue to argue with yourself. It should be entertaining.

Do you need a refresher on your original post?
I don't care how depleted Vandy is, the game needs to be played. Our players need a win and some confidence, especially HB and Shrout, if we want to compete against A&M. Pruitt isn't going anywhere unless they lose to Vandy. Might as well get the last two games in and treat them as a primer to get some young guys experience heading into what will hopefully be full spring practices. Grabbing a win right before early signing day, also a potential blowout, could help calm down a few recruits. There's no benefit for UT in not playing this game.

Should I reiterate my stance for you as well, that beating up on Vandy, will have no impact on the morale of this team, how they play A&M the next week, or whether or not a recruit stays committed to TN, because it's a winless Vandy, with an interim HC, and half of it's team missing? The bare minimum expectation is that UT beats them handily, doing so will change no one's mind.
