Utah State

Alot of silly speculation that just seems to count on the players of a 5-7 team magically becoming the players of a 9-3 team due to nothing other than a season of experience.

Also, the "second full recruiting class" point is just silly. What do you think the 2015 recruiting class would look like after two straight losing seasons under Butch? Do you really think it will rank much higher than the typical Dooley class? That's very doubtful.

Crazier things have happened. Ask Auburn. Not disagreeing with you, but one can dream.

This is an easy one given that Chuckie Keeton is a four year starter and was getting Heisman consideration before he went down with a knee injury. As for Hurd and Malone, I went back and reviewed the past threads and I doubt either will see the field. Years ago we were basically guaranteed that Marlin Lane would be all world and Croom and Howard would return UT to WRU. So I expect both those players to redshirt while the other three combine for the first three-way Heisman. I'm going to go out on a limb and tell you Peyton Manning will be a better pro next year than Phillip Rivers. Why, because just like with Keeton v. Tennessees four QB, one has demonstrated performance and one has not.

Couldn't give 2 Shiites about your thoughts on Keeton.... Thank GOD UTs fortunes don't rest on your expectations. You think that UT, who's in desperate need of a RB is gonna redshirt an elite 5 star? Nah, me neither. If we were deep at the position, which we are not, maybe.

Similarly, you think we're gonna redshirt a top 5 WR nationally when we have about 1.5 playmakers at WR on the entire roster? Malone is already a polished route runner with low 4.4 speed.

I don't care what any armchair said about Lane, Croom and/or Pig last year. None of those guys were anywhere nearly as highly rated and talented.

Both kids' talents are sorely needed from virtually day one. And, both are Early Enrollees and will on campus here in about oh, 2 weeks, giving them an entire Spring, Summer and Fall Camp to get acclimated, learn the system and prepare to make big contributions starting in August.... We'll see plenty of them both on the field this season.

Have you watched any of his film? Polished route runner? He's definitely a very athletic guy but no one is calling this guy a polished route runner. He's gonna need some work but the current roster is in his favor. I'd say we see more of Pearson, at least in the first half of the season.

Yes, he's light years ahead of most recruits his age. He's been working diligently with WR coaches for months/years in his off seasons. Think he's worked with former NFL WRs like Joey Kent for instance.

Look at his film from the elite camps he attended when he was torching elite 5 star DBs, not his game film from Station Camp in that offense.

Agree with you that Pearson SHOULD make the bigger impact sooner, but you never know.... like Pearson, Malone is an elite game changing talent.

Hmm. I've never watched his camp film. His route running was a bit rough in games that I saw but he was so much more athletic than the competition so it didn't matter.

I think you're exactly right regarding his play vs high school competition.

I know he's worked with Buck Fitzgerald and Joey Kent, others as well. YouTube his tape at the Elite camps he attended. He's impressive.

Are you serious? They were homecoming fodder in 4 games, lost to Vandy, and almost lost to USA. They lost to what we now know was a poorly coached and flat out bad UF team. That's 7 poorly coached games vs 2 decently coached games.

BTW, if those kinds of catches that won the USCe game had been common this year then you'd have a decent point. But when it takes a couple of circus catches that were not repeated.... it can be called a fluke.

Yeah. Looked good while Auburn set records against them, huh? They regressed over the course of the year. That's nice. I feel so much better now about 2nd worst scoring D UT has had since at least 1945.

And passed for less than any team since the one that got Fulmer fired. In the SEC, UT was 11th in scoring O, only 7th in rushing O, 13th in passing O, and 12th in total O.

Improved from what? It is wholly illegitimate to use '12 as a basis for comparison. That was the worst coached UT team I have ever seen and the worst underperformance of talent I have seen since at least UT's 2005 team.

Competing hard... beats Vandy. "Competing hard" avoids the complete rapes they endured vs Oregon, Bama, Mizzou, and Auburn.

Unless of course you are saying the players played their tails off and the coaching failed them?

Then you weren't watching because UT's D with no better personnel played their tails off for Wilcox.

No. It simply doesn't.

I said before the season that Auburn had good talent. I didn't know Malzahn would be that good.

If you think talent was how Mizzou thumped UT... you are out of your mind. UT was thoroughly outcoached and the team looked unprepared.

Vandy wasn't that good. That game should have been a two TD win.

More BS. The D was historically horrible. Talent was always going to be a limiting factor but does not come close to justifying how bad they were.

The O was often unimaginative. Execution was often poor and did not appear to improve over the course of the year.

I saw improvements but they were swamped by things that either were worse or failed to improve. And if you can't see that... then pull that beam out of your eye before worrying about the speck in mine.

Just curious but are you a UT fan? I just couldn't tell through all the negativity!!

Team #117 didn't live up to pre season expectations, but look at those expectations! IMO they were set a lil high from the get go.

Next season, we will be 5 - 7 again and miss a bowl game; however, in 2015, we will have at least a 9 - 3 record and be a top #15 team nationally.

So no improvement next year at all? That means not upsetting another team or losing to a team we shouldn't.

He is one who says he is a UT fan and he also says his criticism of UT is constructive. Yet he finds very little good to say about the team. He keeps harping on us getting blown out by Oregon, Bama, AU and Mizzou. He will not look at those losses objectively and thinks we should have been way more competitive.

In short he says he is a Vol fan but in truth he is not. He is a poser who strives for attention.

I'll call him a polished route runner...then we can all be friends :huggy::huggy:

Malone will likely see ample playing time ALL of next season, he has been said to be more polished than North was coming out of HS and he is an EE, something North wasn't. Our starting receivers next year will be North and Malone/Pearson outside and Pig in the slot. Malone will see playing time every game next year barring injury or just forgetting how to catch!!

That is who we are! The 90's and early 2000's are a lifetime ago!

Errrr mah gawd. Please never put up our win-loss record like that without some kind of disclaimer or warning for those who are squeamish. The sight of it is enough to make someone vomit.

If you don't expect a major program to get to at least 6 wins, then I guess you'll never be disappointed by anything.

Vandy plays in the SEC and also beat UF and UGA. Utah State beat FIU.

That SOUNDS like a good argument, but anyone who actually pays attention to SEC football knows that this is just one of those weird years where everybody in the SEC EAST was either injured or still contaminated with the stink of Dooley. Vandy's historic year was a once-in-a-lifetime fluke.

That said, I have no idea about Utah St.

Yes. Are you? I just couldn't tell through all of the excuses and low expectations... How's that?

I AM a UT fan.... just not sure I am a fan of this coaching staff yet based on their results. And- I know the difference between the two. Some of you apparently don't. You'll disrespect the players all day long but bristle at any and all criticism of the coaches.

The six wins most wanted was NOT too high. The willingness to accept any number of wins as long as the team was competitive and improved over the course of the year was DEFINITELY not too high.

Only a pathetically loser attitude would think 5 was acceptable or that 6 or 7 wins was too high of an expectation from that roster.

Still fighting the good fight? lol

I still agree with you, mostly..

Many of the sheep attack you for expecting multi million dollar coaches to actually coach the players...

WKU was awful though. I think we roll; especially at home. But they're not terrible.

WKU turned the ball over about a hundred times and out-gained us in the game. I think we roll at home as well.

This sums it up perfectly. There was no excuse to lose to Vandy this year, at all.
