UT NIL Football Commitment

That's why it needs to be changed to employee, which I think it will.
That doesn't matter, employee or not.

NIL collectives are not attached to the school. They are strictly for getting players name, image, and likeness deals. It's no different than Mahomes deal with State Farm. State Farm can pay him 1 billion dollars per commercial if they want to and it doesn't affect his earning potential in the NFL at all or affect the Chiefs payroll.

Interesting article here folks. The 2026 class is the first to sign under the new rules.

Question- If the NIL contract is now negotiated directly with the university NIL office, is the collective still relevant? (I may not have read far enough.)

If the school is limited to $20.5M for all sports, I'm doubtful that's enough if UT wants to compete in multiple sports.

Yes collectives will still be relevant.

I haven't kept up, but aren't all schools capped at $20.5M they can directly pay into the total athletic program?
I believe that's correct. It's not a large amount for schools like UT that have multiple sports with successful programs in several sports.

The NCAA seems to hope the "clearinghouse" for non school NIL will rein in "pay to play" deals but I look for lawyers to get richer by having the courts again tell the NCAA that NIL deals aren't something they can regulate in any way.

This is all unbelievable. How do you keep 18-23 year olds from becoming complacent (and therefore not performing or having a desire too) after you give them more money that most of their parents have earned in the previous year - in some cases their lifetimes?

Some will have the "eye of the tiger", but I suspect many will not.
I mean the NFL seems to have figured it out. Why do you assume many of these guys who have spent a large part of their life trying to be great at football will just stop trying when they get a few hundred thousand to a mil or so? “Well my dream since I can remember has been to play in the NFL but I’ve got $500K now so I guess that’s good enough. Time to stop working hard.”

Have you been watching the games I see the majority playing their rear off. GBO

So how are we doing it, and I think I see where we signed a top 5 class and virtually tied bama for the sec’s best class. But now that we are among the top classes some say it’s not important. They covet the portal like it’s a miracle cure. It’s important but is vastly overrated as the most important thing when in reality it’s just a part of the overall picture.GBO

Elsewhere I posted where the TN Attorney General is fighting the Commission the NCAA chose to regulate outside NIL.

I assume we're doing what everyone is doing and paying to play.

NCAA is so stupid.

They want a salary cap which is fine if it’s run like the NFL, but they should have no jurisdiction over endorsement (NIL) deals.

They need to worry about fixing the CFP mess.

Is there any serious talk about there being a cap? $10-$15 mil maybe?
Impossible to cap "real" NIL. That is why they wanted a commissioner to go around cursing your NIL by saying it wasn't "real". They wanted Nick Saban to be commissioner because they thought everybody was afraid of him. Fear is important because the commissioner has not a leg to stand on. The whole idea would never work; all it takes is one person to tell them to go to hell, which would be probably the first person.
