tennessee needs to re-spark the series with mtsu eventually. i enjoyed it the last time they got together. then again, as a tn tech student i kind of enjoy mtsu getting beat up on anyway.
as an mtsu student I would love to see the MT Tech rivalry resparked... and i like seeing Tech lose...

UTM will look much different when Tennessee plays them. UTM will lose many key position players because of their senior status. This will be a great oppourtunity for many players who grew up being UT fans to actually play in Neyland Stadium on UTM's side of the Ball.

Go Skyhawks!
Go Vols!

it was bound to happen but still sucks. At least our schedule is good enough to make up for it

Oh lord....That is just shameless to schedule those guys...And if We end up having a great year at the end the BCS committee will be looking at that first game and decide on if We should be in a BCS game or not...Just don't like it one bit...Remember Auburn some years back

Martin is alot better team now than they used to be. When I was going to school there they won one game in like 3-4 years and that game they payed Lambuth so much money to play just so they would have someone to beat. I believe my freshman year there I remember they took a vote among the players and coaches whether or not to end the program and they narrowly voted to keep it.

This is better than the possible Kickoff Classic matchup with Va. Tech that had been mentioned in the past. In our first 7 games we already had Oregon, UF, LSU, UGA, and Bama. We have to schedule some sure wins at some point. With those matchups, I don't think strength of schedule is going to be an issue.

Thank God we didn't schedule Va Tech, this schedule already has 7 extremly tough games. That's enough!

I think it's more about helping one of our schools in our UT system. Nice little payday1JMO

I really don't see a problem with it. It's not like we do this all the time. We can still brag about our out-of-conference scheduling anyway. Find someone else, not already in an OOC yearly rivalry, who schedules a tough OOC like us.
Since 98, we've had home-and-homes with Cuse, Notre Dame, Miami, Cal, UCLA, Oregon, North Carolina, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Ohio State, among others (single game against North Carolina State).
There is plenty to brag on, even if we play 1 FCS school in 30ish years...

I say it is about time. The BCS doesn't punish it. It helps you keep players healthy over a long season. It can be used to develop young guys.

The only problem I see is that they are opening with them instead of putting it in the middle of the season like most others do to rest and get well.

again, ut martin is not "non-D1." they're in the division 1 championship subdivision in football

Who cares what you call it.....UT scheduled a lower division opponent.....it is what it is.

Our non-conference scheduling history makes up for this unworthy team being on our schedule for 1 year.

I heard this news on the radio this morning. At first, I thought, "April Fools!" but when I saw this article-It's true. Personally, I would like to welcome the Skyhawks to Knoxville, but I still have that feeling it's almost a given win...:blink:But it's nice to finally have our own campus teams play each other...sorta like an orange and white game! This will be something to look forward to!

I think TN said, "why pay someone else for us to beat... when we can pay ourselves?!?!?!"

It all comes from the same big overall budget anyways so why not keep it in house.

That said, I still think it bites and shouldn't have been done, but oh well now where just like everyone else and we can have the opportunity to go undefeated! NC for 2010!

If the money is coming from the UTAD budget then it is not all the same money. It's basically a big donation to UTM from UT boosters.

And who supplements the UTM athletic department... the overall UTM budget, its all in the same University of Tennessee system. Even though it doesn't exactly work like that, the boosters would be donating to any small school TN plays.
Its like if TN played UT-Chattanooga, or found someone to play from UT-Memphis.

I really hope TN doesn't start playing all of its sub-schools.

the UTAD is self-funded. Are you saying there is only one fund for all athletics in the UT system?
