Some of you guys are butching the division layout.

UT-Martin is in the D-I playoff subdivision (I-AA)...same goes for Austin-Peay, Tennessee Tech, UTC, etc.

Pacific was in D-I...just like Tennessee. They no longer play football.

DII - you won't be seeing these on Tennessee's schedule (Carson Newman is DII)

DIII - you won't be seeing these guys either (Union College is DIII)

I like it for UT-Martin....They are upgrading their schedules...They played at South Florida and Auburn this year...They actually gave Auburn fits and moved the ball over the field on them...Turnovers might have kept them from posting a huge upset....Did much better offensively against Auburn than we did....I think they play at Memphis this upcoming season....Helps their recruiting and it's a big pay-day.....They have built a new football building and just put down "near-turf"..They have a nice facility now...Not a football laughingstock anymore....

I don't much like it being a Vols fan because it does nothing for your BCS standing....

I was actually at the Citadel game in Memphis..I thought it was 83 but it could have been 82...Our high school football team went as a group to watch the game....

I just searched on google for more info about UT Martin's football team, and they completely stole their uniforms from Auburn, they are identical in every way to the pre Under Armor unis that Auburn had with the exception of the helmets.

All the way down to the paint codes....

i can't think of the name of the team that said

anybody

anytime

who are they ? and I'm sure they would come to TN to play a game,I'm sure this game is about money, didn't ETSU got something like $80,000 to play Auburn years ago ?

I'm pretty sure that was Fresno St. and they did come here to play back in 2003. They have a game already scheduled with Cal-Poly for that week (Sept. 4). They also play at Ole Miss 3 weeks later, so a second cross country trip to play an SEC team was probably not going to happen.

having these UTM on the schedule is wrong in so many ways...

I've been thinking lately...maybe were being set up for a full-scale, long-term, in-state rivalry! Let me explain:

In my living memory, I have seen a lot of other states like Florida, Texas, and others play schools in their own state. They have been HUGE rivals ever since. Like if anyone remembers watching the Georgia/Georgia Tech game last year? Great game. I wanted the Bulldogs to win, but I was proud of how GA tech managed to blow them down...

Anyway, we of UT is missing these kind of games. Now let me warn everyone that we CAN NOT take UTM lightly. If so, UTM might actually stomp all over us for that. And then-BOOM! Full scale rivalry. The enemy will sneak up from behind and step on our backs because we thought they were "pushovers." I've seen this time and time again...Lets go back to the UGA/GT game, UGA had a 10 point lead round the start of the 2nd half so they relaxed, but GT took advantage of that and got a 10 point lead over THEM, and won the game. Now if you don't want to deal with that embarrasment or have a full-blown riot in Knoxville, then be ready to start 2010 with a fire.

Mike Hamliton is trying to set us up for something big. You've got students from the same state and different branches from the same college group. These normally mix into very interesting games...Lets have something to prove in 2010! GO VOLS!!!

It will mix into Martin students cheering for the Vols like everyone else and no one outside of the state caring about our 35 point victory. Comparing UT-Martin and Georgia Tech... You need to rethink that one.

"tennessee needs to re-spark the series with mtsu eventually. i enjoyed it the last time they got together. then again, as a tn tech student i kind of enjoy mtsu getting beat up on anyway."

I was at the last Tech game in Murfreesboro. Lets just say it wasn't pretty. Kinda gotta way there in the 2nd. :p

If I were a Tenn fan, I'd strongly oppose in-state scheduling (except Vandy... and only because you have to play Vandy). In that same vein, I hope Alabama doesn't schedule UAB, Troy, or any other Alabama school except Auburn. Reason: credibility and recruiting. Tenn has a recruiting advantage not enjoyed by most of its SEC brethern... you're the only major football school in the state. (A nod to Vandy & Memphis fans... but I stand by my statement.) When you give credibility and visibility to the lesser (football-wise) in-state schools by playing them, you raise their profile in the eyes of in-state recruits. Then you must compete even harder against those schools (as well as out-of-state schools) for the best of the Tennessee HS players.

We already have Oregon on the schedule so I don't mind this warm up game instead of jumping straight into the season with UO.

9-11 Oregon
9-18 Florida
9-25 UAB
10-2 @ Louisiana State
10-9 @ Georgia
10-23 Alabama
10-30 @ South Carolina
11-6 @ Memphis
11-13 Mississippi
11-20 @ Vanderbilt
11-27 Kentucky

Yeah...Not a real good analogy...

But I will say this....Auburn probably overlooked the Skyhawks and in the 3rd qtr it was 20-20....

The Vols need to put 35 on them in the first qtr and end it early....The Skyhawks get the payday....We get the victory....

This isn't that big of a deal in scheduling people. We still play oregon that year. We still have an SEC schedule to deal with, and we will still keep playing teams like UNC, Oklahoma, and Nebraska in the following years...and I think we have a georgia dome game coming up soon versus an ACC opponent dont we?

You can have one game like this scheduled.
