I've been thinking lately...maybe were being set up for a full-scale, long-term, in-state rivalry! Let me explain:
In my living memory, I have seen a lot of other states like Florida, Texas, and others play schools in their own state. They have been HUGE rivals ever since. Like if anyone remembers watching the Georgia/Georgia Tech game last year? Great game. I wanted the Bulldogs to win, but I was proud of how GA tech managed to blow them down...
Anyway, we of UT is missing these kind of games. Now let me warn everyone that we CAN NOT take UTM lightly. If so, UTM might actually stomp all over us for that. And then-BOOM! Full scale rivalry. The enemy will sneak up from behind and step on our backs because we thought they were "pushovers." I've seen this time and time again...Lets go back to the UGA/GT game, UGA had a 10 point lead round the start of the 2nd half so they relaxed, but GT took advantage of that and got a 10 point lead over THEM, and won the game. Now if you don't want to deal with that embarrasment or have a full-blown riot in Knoxville, then be ready to start 2010 with a fire.
Mike Hamliton is trying to set us up for something big. You've got students from the same state and different branches from the same college group. These normally mix into very interesting games...Lets have something to prove in 2010! GO VOLS!!!
