UT in negotiations with Kippy Brown

Hubbs says he has heard from people on the inside that Kippy is a lock and he has also heard from people on the inside that it isn't happening. That is how messed up the situation is.

I'd say he will announce a day or two after the Cignetti interview who is hired. He also probably has a few position coaches in mind and possibly has already contacted them(Sanders comes to mind).

HV, wouldn't most of the recruits with a serious interest in UT at least be in a wait-and-see mode before ruling out UT (sorry, I haven't read the Pryor thread lately)?

I think quite a few are. I don't know how long they will wait, though. It's a good thing that this class isn't supposed to be a big one.

Fulmer went after the guy who is going to challenge his philosophy and bring new ideas to the table. I like that.

Detroit will fire offensive coordinator Mike Martz after Sunday's season-ending game at Green Bay and replace him with receivers coach Kippy Brown, ...

I doubt he would turn down the OC job at Detroit for the OC job at UT. Fulmer maybe down for his 3rd choice for OC, after Spence, Brown, etc.

I don't get that move. I mean, Martz has put out some of the best offenses in NFL history. Why replace him with a guy that was an OC for one season, and in that one season his offense was one of the worst in the NFL?

Nice work.

KB is good enough to be an OC in the NFL and we have folks here questioning whether or not he is qualified to be the OC at UT.

Just give it time... it's not the people questioning him who are wrong. They'll quickly point at the stupidity of the Lions administration who didn't interview Hatcher for the job.

You said it, but it's not really untrue.

I'm not saying it's a bad hire, but the Lions aren't exactly known for intelligent management. In fact, theirs is pretty widely regarded as the worst in the league.

I thought Brown was Miami's OC for 2 seasons, where they ranked 16th and 13th in offense.

And yours is regarded as.... what?

I did a little research on the net. He was there one season. His offense was ranked 29th, I believe. That info could be incorrect, but that's what I found.

I imagine that I could probably manage to have at least the worst record in the NFL over the course of my time as General Manager. That would put me on par with Matt Millen.

Apparently, there's better information in his current bio than what you have found.

Detroit Lions Site: Kippy Brown

"From 1996-99, Brown was on Jimmy Johnson’s Miami Dolphins coaching staff, where he was the offensive coordinator from 1998-99 and the running backs coach from 1996-97. As the team’s offensive coordinator (’98-99), the Dolphins appeared in the playoffs both seasons and recorded first-round wins in each season. In 1996, Brown helped RB Karim Abdul-Jabbar become the first Dolphins running back to reach 1,000 yards in 18 years, and in 1997 Abdul-Jabbar tied a league-high 15 rushing touchdowns."

OMFG!!! That's the funniest thing I've heard today... TYVM!!

Yeah, Brown was Miami's OC for 2 years, and pro-football-reference dot com has them ranked 16th and 13th for his 2 years.

He was an OC for an NFL playoff team... hmmmm... does that count as knowing something about how to run an offense?

Jimmy Johnson is now on par with CPF as being idiotic enough to hire him....

At least be fair, gentlement.

KB is well-qualified for the job. The issue isn't his ability to do the job, but our ability to convince him to come to UT over potentially better opportunities. He's good enough to be our HC someday.

Put it this way. If we hired Hatcher, would it be wise fo KB to consider the HC job at GA Southern that would be vacated... or the OC job with the Lions? I'm fairly sure it's the later.
