UT in negotiations with Kippy Brown

So much for waiting to interview multiple candidates at the coaches conference the week of the 7th.

Typical Phil - time will tell if this is a good hire. I don't think we upgraded from "Rut" but don't think we downgraded either. I was hoping we'd go get a big name but Phil likes 9-4 just fine no need to get out of his comfort zone. No need in trying to get to the next level when your AD thinks your doing great by leading his school to the Outback Bowl annually and supports you fully and is talking of giving you a pay raise for 9-4.

Did Spence turn us down and this is the backup plan, or does anyone know if we offered the job to anyone yet?

Ah come on, tell us how you really feel.

Who was the big name you were hoping for?

I would at least hope that UT would seriously consider someone else to use as leverage against KB in negotiations. It honestly seems like we're just offering to anyone out of desperation. And that's a stinky cologne.

i don't think it's desperation
kippy's name's been top of the list since the beginning, and given his background with the program, it's really no surprise

He wouldn't be my first choice, but I think we could do a lot worse than bringing in a guy we already know who has NFL coordinator experience.

Um, why was everyone talking yesterday that Spence was a done deal? Did we offer him, or just interview? Did Spence turn us down?

I think it was pretty clear yesterday that we had probably talked to Spence and maybe had even gauged his interest in the job, but that was it.

Hopefully they get someone other than spence, who's done nothing at clemson against good defenses.

Considering how we do against good D's, that's not a measuring stick. Spence, and Clemson as a whole, do pretty good for their location in the recruiting grounds.

I posted this the other day.

Clemson's offense dropped by 23% against top 40 Ds

Tennessee's dropped by 6.8%

Why would bringing Sanders back to coach RBs or QBs be a bad thing? He was pretty solid as a positions coach. I can't say either way if he was a good OC because he never fully had control of the offense.

Then our performance against bad D's was not up to snuff. Apparently Clemson played the bad D's as you would expect.
