Dobbs was one of the most exciting players in the SEC... and believe it or not... A LOT of people watch the SEC outside of the southeast simply because it is the strongest conference. SEC offers are a big deal to kids across the country.
No one denies the program has been through the valley. But any fan of football knows who USC is even though they haven't been great the last few years.
We can't speak for the kid but the quote looks to have been taken WAY out of context as it relates to how the author spun it.
Not much you can do about it....
Watched a YouTube video discussing every QB who got 4/5* in 2015. It wasn't pretty for the recruiting sites' bona fides.
Heupel has what he needs this year. He can afford to be a picky shopper in this round of recruiting and build relationships for '23 when it is fairly likely one or two of the guys competing for the starting job this fall will be gone.
On the other side of that... Heupel needs to show what kind of difference his offensive scheme can make this fall. Wins are important. Figuring out how to play D opposite his fast O will eventually be vital. But the key thing this year is putting up offensive numbers. If that happens... maybe he flips one of these guys. UT definitely becomes a target destination for guys in the portal.
PS- It is unlikely that Jackson meant it just like that. Unless he just doesn't watch football... he knows about Neyland, Rocky Top, Dobbs, Jennings, etc. And honestly... what do we want him to know about most of the last 15 years?

Our expectations should be AT LEAST making it to the SECCG game every year or every other year. A large portion of us fans are also widely delusional thinking we should compete for the SEC and national title every year when we have become a lower tier SEC team like Kentucky , South Carolina and Arkansas. We just have a bigger stadium than them that’s it. Some of the fans need to lower their expectations quite a bit it’s not the 90’s or early 2000’s anymore. We haven’t been elite or even decent to average in a very long time.
Winning solves recruiting problems, coaching issues, administration blunders, etc. We have to re-establish a culture of winning, of expecting to win.....I think 6-6 is achievable in 2021, with a modicum of luck......our schedule is favorable and CJH will convey that expectation of winning to his players.....now, Knute Rockne himself could not convey that expectation to some of the angst-ridden posters on this site who wallow in defeatism and relish spreading their gospel of gloom and doom to whomever will embrace it.The fact that Tennessee was in the running for both Simpson and Horn just proves how irrelevant this article is. Yeah, UT isn't as "well known" as the 90's but it isn't like they're Florida International or something. If Heupel wins some games and this offense does what it's expected to do recruits will notice more than what they are right now, simple as that.
That may have been an effective pitch two coaches ago, now we've honestly got to learn to crawl before we can walk or run. Heupel is going to need time and we can't keep pretending we are still a powerhouse, we just aren't anymore. We haven't won the conference this century. We can get back to the top but we've got to get back to respectability first imo.I want him and anyone else who don't know, to know..... That this is not our norm despite the times. I want them to know that we usually run the freaking east (with thre exception of SOS) I want them to know WE ARE NOT USED TO LOSING TO KY AND VANDY OR NOT BEING RANKED INSIDE THE TOP 25 OR NOT GOING TO A FREAKING NY6 BOWL. That people like Manning are the standard and expectation here. That Neyland stadium is one of the most feared and storied Stadiums in all of cfb. That we used to dominate Bama and Ga. That orange don't run, that smokey will rip your throat out and that people come here because it's one of the best football programs of all time. Not for Bubba big mac sacks. And that we are a sleeping giant.
People need to believe we are on the cusp of returning to that. Not wtf is going on now
Dude, we just landed Bailey and Salter. Simpson was coming here until we fired Pruitt. We have had a top notch recruiting class for many years. The coaching scenario, however, is true and that is because everyone knows we fired Fulmer and that our boosters meddle too much. Regardless, we have Huepel. He may or may not be the guy, but he sure as heck put together a much better looking initial staff than Pruitt or Butch Jones did. The latter is arguable, because they sure as hell did a nice job before the fans and boosters started bitching and moaning. Regardless, the resumes of a lot of these guys on Huepel’s staff is impressive. I wouldn’t tell you what to do, but we might as well support this guy.“I know that Peyton Manning went there and that’s really all I know about the school,” said Jackson.
All the former greats don't matter. It don't matter that we're in the SEC. Never mind that we're one of the winningest football programs of all time. Coaches don't want to come here and current recruits aren't familiar with us. We have sucked so bad for so long that we truly have become irrelevant in the CFB world. We have got to get results from the Heupel era or we may never be relevant again.
Quote from recruit shows why landing an elite QB will be hard for Josh Heupel
