Useless Occupations

I'm still not sure why teachers don't get paid more. If they did, I think there would be better quality teachers with more competition.
I am going to have to completely disagree. The way to create quality education is to introduce competition. Until then, we will have shoddy public schools in most all of the school districts in the U.S.

Oh, and as for the money thing. It costs the government, on average, $9,000 to send a child through one school year. I know that my alma mater currently costs $2,300 per student. It is one of the top schools in the nation. So, throwing more money at the problem, will not fix it...EVER.

I am anti-police. The heavy handedness is too much, they serve a purpose, but sitting on the side of the highway with a radar gun to add ticket money to the local gov't coffers is not it.

Unfortunately, it seems they spend alot more time doing this than they do tackling matters of significance.

Then we'll stop patroling the roads and run a human road kill clean up crew on the side to earn a little extra "unearned" income.

If you lived in Memphis, you'd wish there were more cops. I've heard they are pretty corrupt here, but I'm still glad to see one when I'm walking around at night.
I've lived in "worse" cities than Memphis. I never wished there were more cops.

Nothing screams "I drive too fast" like somebody complaining about speed traps. :birgits_giggle:

I agree there is WAY to many bad cops in this country and that's a shame. I also know alot of my fellow brothers and sisters don't go "all out" on some issues/crimes because there is honestly no use too this day and age because the courts will just turn them free anyways. The judicial system has ALOT of flaws but it's not all out on the streets or beats.
I'd bet money there are more bad ambulance chasers than policemen in this country.

Actually, i've only gotten one ticket, back in maybe 2000. 73 in a 65 in Ohio, on my way home from Colorado. Would have contested the mother scratcher, but it wasnt worth going to Ohio over $80 or whatever it was. Perfect example of how we need more "Law Enforcement"

I'd feel more comfortable if a girl could go outside unaccompanied after sundown.
The only time I have ever wished there was a cop around was when a friend of mine (female) and myself stepped off the subway and into Jackson Heights, NY.

I actually watched a guy get yanked off his bicycle and beaten pretty much lifeless by about six other men, as we walked down the other side of the street. Nobody else even seemed to notice, as if it was an everyday occurance.

I don't hate the police. My father was a police officer for 15 years. I've simply seen enough bad cops to have a healthy skepticism about the quality of law enforcement in America today.

Like the ones that beat Lester Siler?
