Without police, I'd be deprived of the hilarity that is our local police force in action thanks to our police scanner.
...everyone mentions paying teachers more money but no one ever mentions firing some of them for doing a bad job. Maybe that would work and its much cheaper.
You honestly think teachers should be paid more than $30K per school year? Let's take in to account that the average teacher only works 35 hours per week and 8 months per year, I would say that $30K is more than enough.I wouldn't mind more accountability for teachers if they were paid more, at least in Tennessee. Otherwise, we get what we pay for, and for 30k year, I don't know if it is worth it for them to exaust all means for every child. And don't even try to say it shouldn't be about the money. About the money is the American way, or at least should be, in my opinion.

If teachers want more money, then they should moonlight during their off time and actually earn it.
35 hours per week and 8 months per year is absolutely wrong. You honestly think teachers should be paid more than $30K per school year? Let's take in to account that the average teacher only works 35 hours per week and 8 months per year, I would say that $30K is more than enough.

$30K for 8 months of baby sitting is pretty good money. An industrious and resourceful teacher could easily make another $10K over summer break and Christmas break (combined), and another $5-10K by working evenings and weekends throughout the year.I was saying if they were to be held more accountable than they are now, they should be paid more. I think they should work more and get paid more, and be more accountable for student performance in their subjects.
But 30k ain't sh*t, man.
I am simply speaking of "on the job" hours. Else, we could easily compare the 70-90 hours per week that white collar business employees and execs, conscientious enough to do their job well, put in to their work.you apparently have no idea what goes into teaching. I can assure you that those conscientious enough to do it well spend far more than 35 hours per week doing the job.
Wrong.
I have no probably stating my opinions. If my opinions are polarizing, so be it.You know you say some very polarizing things on here.
Teachers aren't baby sitters, and they work more than 35 hours a week.
I'll agree they get a pretty good vacation schedule, but it's WORK....Teaching and developing kids.
When you're done wading thru swamps playing Ranger..
Here's a program for you..
WELCOME
or try volunteering with Junior Achievement..It's only 5 weeks, and I think it would give you some valuable insight.
My daughter in law teaches first grade and she puts in 1-1 and 1/2 hours overtime a day not to mention all the meetings with parents, faculty, county, state, etc.,so she is one of the ones that should make more money at least.Plus her school scores way above avearge for tara nova test (sp). You honestly think teachers should be paid more than $30K per school year?
