USC OC Tee Martin 'disappointed' not to get interview with Tennessee

UT was concerned that Mrs.Tee's singing career would be impacted with a possible move to the hills. Did not want to cause upheaval in the marriage so chose to look elsewhere.

Or perhaps this: Tee was a great player for UT and quarterbacked a group of ultra-talented players to a national championship.....But at this point in his coaching career he has yet to be a full-time play caller or been the go-to offensive coordinator. Word is that he has been a very good recruiter. Tee has an opportunity to distinguish himself as the USC program continues to reach national prominence. Maybe UT will regret that they did not reach out to him. Only time will tell.

The coach that UT hired has been around extremely successful operations. Serving as the DC coordinator for 3 programs, 2 of which won national championships while he was on the staff. He is known as an amazing recruiter. And, again, only time will tell whether he will be a successful hire.

If Martin is impressed with Schiano resume then his ceiling isn’t very high as a HC

Probably just throwing out platitudes since his offense will be facing Schiano's defense.

He couldn't really say they guy's resume sucked and he has widely been reported to be one of the bigger a^^holes in football.

If people want to blame someone for Martin not coming back to Knoxville, blame Currie and blame Fulmer.

I won't knock the guy for aiming high and wanting a head coaching position. His opportunity will come soon enough.

All coaches say nice things about other coaches. He should be disappointed. He said nothing wrong here.

Let me say it a little stronger: Martin was the leader on the only UT team in modern history to exhibit even one minute speck of relevance. I don't know if he would ever make a good head coach, but everyone on this board should bow down and worship the ground he walks on and his every word: we will never, never have it so good again. Keep running those smart mouths; each 5 win season will seem so satisfying.

Bow down - worship???

Get real, and as him being "THE" leader on that team, debatable.

By the way, is this the kind of posting that marks you as a senior on this site? It's sure not the time or number of posts you have put up so far. Kinda like "T" being ready for a big time head coaching job. He's not there yet and neither are you ready to be a senior for this web site...

He had his chance to coach here

His wife loves SoCal. $2-3mill more per year “may” have moved her to East Tennessee if Tee got the HC job.
He wasn’t ready, nor was it in his best interest to be HC at UT right now. We’ll see if Tee takes an HC job somewhere next year, I’m hearing no offers...not sure why?

One thing that Coach Fulmer clearly understood, and that some here apparently do not, is that the next HC at UT had to have one very specific skill: He had to be able to recruit in the SEC, against the SEC, and had to have proven it by doing it. This, IMO, is what set Jeremy Pruitt apart from any other candidates under consideration (if there were any).

Pruitt can, will, and in fact has already proven that he can bring the horses to UT. It all starts with recruiting, and Phil wisely hired a HC with a proven resume' in that regard.

Go Vols.

Im as much a vol as the next guy, bit did you seriously suggest he should get rid of his wife just because she prefers to live in la working on her own career rather than move to knoxville, only a stones throw from his ex and baby mama?

Nope, but if you want to read it that way go ahead. But until that problem is solved, it will be a distraction. And we all want a coach that has a distraction don't we?

Don't know what's worse, your post or the fact 9 people like it!!

You'd think that a former player that's been honored by having a campus street named after them would be somewhat diplomatic with their comments about their alma mater instead of spewing some of the garbage that he has been muttering. Also, do any other major universities have a street adjacent to their stadium named after a sitting coordinator at another school? Dig it up. Should have never happened in the first place. Al Wilson was far more deserving.

Tee was not ready. I am one of his biggest fans but his resume was not quite there yet. I think I would have been good if he was a head coach in waiting for a few years under Les or Cutcliffe but at this point I would rather have the coach who has trained under Saban.

Because that always works out so well (McElwain, Muschamp, Dooley....).

Pruitt is infinitely more qualified than Martin. Think about a staff under Martin who though Schiano was a good fit. Tee was a great QB for Tennessee but he doesn't have the experience as a coordinator that Pruitt does.

So he whiffs on an FCS team and a week later he thinks he's ready to lead an SEC team...Interesting

If Tee turns out to be a dominant program builder and wins a lot of games as HC at any P5 school I'll eat my hat.

Greg Schiano's Resume:

* 68-67 college record (50.4%)
* 1 really good season in 11 (with Ray Rice), the only season that his team ended the season ranked
* 4-18 against ranked opponents
* outscored by ranked opponents 779-415 over career, with an average per game score of 35-19
* 11-21 NFL record (34.4%)
* hated by his own players in NFL
* hated by most of the rest of the NFL
* employed questionable tactics, including blitzing the other team while they were in victory formation. Last year, the Rams did something similar, and in the game summary, the author actually said that the Rams "pulled a Schiano"
* cursed out by Peyton Manning
* hasn't had a head coaching job since getting canned by Tampa Bay in 2013. Unknown whether anyone has even approached him with a job
* may have witnessed, and covered up, one of the most heinous ongoing criminal act in college sports history

Plenty of openings but no takers -- wonder why ?

He would have been a very good coach, but I think we did very well with our new coach. I think he will likely do better because of his experience with the SEC and the coaches with whom he coaches at UA,UGa, and FSU. He put together a great recruiting team of coaches and the future looks very bright for our VOLs.

Just a excellent understanding of the situation.
