for years (and possibly still?) Sports Belle was still making the game day jerseys just putting a swoosh and then three stripes on them. The plant burned down 5 years ago and I'm not sure if they ever reopened.

Another thing is that these seven kids aren't even original. Wisconsin has been fighting this issue for almost two years.

I knew their plant burned down, but I was unaware that they still manufactured jerseys for some time even after UT switched it's contract to adidas in the mid-90's. Did Sports Belle make the black jerseys a few years ago? I though I remember somebody saying that they were locally done because of the short time frame to produce them once the decision to wear them was made.

Odds that the kids leading this little 'petition/protest' are loaded down with Macbooks/Ipads/Iphones?

I'm guessing pretty good.

Again, if you want Nike or UA, I'd suggest you get them to start offering more than what they have been. Adidas offers UT the best deal...therefore....UT wears Adidas.

That concept is too hard for most of these buffoons to grasp.

UT wears Adidas because Adidas pays UT the most.

If you would like to cover the difference in what Adidas pays and what Nike would pay then I'm sure the school would listen to your proposal.

I liked them....they looked a little tacky and could've been made to look a lot better but it wasn't like Maryland a couple years ago.....and for those saying jerseys can't help win, they can to an extent...they bring excitement which produces adrenaline...they also bring a higher confidence level as stupid as it sounds

TV ratings, recruiting fit in there as well. Personally if Maryland is wearing those god awful helmets and unis I will switch to another game.

We may be able to get out of the Adidas contract. I know many on here wish we were a Nike or Underarmour team, but because of our contract with Adidas, we are stuck. Some proactive students have taken it upon themselves to get UT to drop Adidas due to unfair treatment of overseas laborers, which if UT chose to accept, would invalidate our current contract. For more information, see the link below:

This literally will not happen, as has already been addressed.

This is a bunch of students backing a fad cause, and they'll drop it as soon as something they deem more deplorable comes along.

They never put a swoosh on them. Our football and basketball teams wore Nike shoes in the early 90s, but have never worn Nike-branded uniforms.

Sports Belle manufactured Adidas uniforms for every Adidas school, including Tennessee, from 1997-2001. They continued to manufacture basketball and baseball uniforms for some Adidas schools after that.

SB went largely out of business after losing the Adidas contract, then had a mysterious factory fire a few months later. The insurance company ruled it arson and they were never paid for their claim, based on the revelation that much of their archive and collection of samples and signed memorabilia had been removed prior to the fire.

The black jerseys were made by SM Athletics, which hired a lot of former Sports Belle employees.

Never understood the hate for adidas....i see nothing wrong with the uniforms....just wish they wore something different every once in a while, which isn't adidas' fault

Until one of those companies shows that they want to match the financial offer that Adidas makes, you're not going to see a change. Both Nike and Under Armour were well outbid three years ago.

Wisconsin's student government passed a resolution similar to the petition the article references. There ended up being no action taken because the other two major apparel companies have similar "violations" worldwide. Good luck finding a clothing company that doesn't use sweatshops somewhere. That doesn't make it right, but it's the truth. Unless you're wearing hippie canvas shoes, the ones you have on now were probably made by a 13-year old making $0.18/hr. Ditto for your shirt.
