Ukraine Protests

Cuba and the US have a leasing agreement with Gitmo that way predated Castro. The two are nothing alike.

A nifty side tangent, they haven't cashed the "rent" checks since Castro came into power.
Crimean-Russian relationship predates Castro, Bautista, The Spanish American War...

So technically, you are correct. The 2 are nothing alike in that sense.

Which is why we'll probably see more "Kherson-like" incursions over the next week or so. I'll be honest, I was optimistic, but I don't see how this doesn't result in a war. On the one hand, I don't think Ukraine wants to stomach a conflict with Russia, but, on the other hand, asking Ukraine to keep supplying the Crimea with electricity, oil, gas, and other commodities, seems a bit far fetched. This isn't going to end well.

So maybe they should cut the power now?

Could be Russia's next move is to hold elections in part of southeast Ukraine to connect Crimea to Russia via land. Who knows what Putin's next move is., if he knows himself.

He knows his next move. Putin's ultimate goal is to return all the land back to Russia that was lost during the dissolution of the USSR.

The truly sad thing is whatever real portion of the Ukrainians that are voting to join Russia literally have no idea what they are voting themselves into.

Depends if Putin elects to "protect" Russians elsewhere in Eastern Ukraine.

He could probably get away with it. I don't see any country stepping up to defend Ukraine militarily if Putin did make a move. Just sanctions and UN complaints which are as threatening as a box of kittens.

Similar to Germany and Japan prior to the kickoff off World War 2, the Western powers and the League of Nations didn't want to start a conflict so they let it pass.

Sure they complained about Japan invading Manchuria, and Japan said F You and walked out.

Germany played them like a fiddle because they knew Britain and France weren't going to do anything.

"The Cossacks arrived today in Donetsk in order to support the pro Russian demands for a referendum similar to the one that took place yesterday in Crimea..."

Why is Obama even commenting on this situation? The world knows he won't do anything.

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said

The guy is worried about our image to the world. He continually looks like a chump on foreign policy. Assad 1 - Obama 0. Putin saw the weak leader that Obama is and acted. Putin 1 Obama 0.

Until there is a land bridge that can be controlled by Russia into the Crimea, I feel the encroachment on Ukrainian territory will continue.

After Russia's little nudge at us today, it could get nasty quick.

We were told to stay out of it, or they could turn us in to radioactive ash.

There is no telling what will happen in the next week, but our BMDS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Their BMDS

That was a pretty scary statement. They just stuck their middle finger up to the whole world. I don't know how we go back to somewhat normal relations.

so the EO about the Ukraine says this
(i) to be responsible for or complicit in, or to have engaged in, directly or indirectly, any of the following:
(A) actions or policies that undermine democratic processes or institutions in Ukraine;
(B) actions or policies that threaten the peace, security, stability, sovereignty, or territorial integrity of Ukraine; or

so is it going to be applied to all or is this simply a poorly written shot at Russia?

I think it's the reaction to do something other than words. Let's face it, the EU and US have been behind the 8 ball the whole time with this Ukraine situation and this EO is just a quick "well, we (finally) did something" reaction.
