Crimean-Russian relationship predates Castro, Bautista, The Spanish American War...Cuba and the US have a leasing agreement with Gitmo that way predated Castro. The two are nothing alike.
A nifty side tangent, they haven't cashed the "rent" checks since Castro came into power.
Which is why we'll probably see more "Kherson-like" incursions over the next week or so. I'll be honest, I was optimistic, but I don't see how this doesn't result in a war. On the one hand, I don't think Ukraine wants to stomach a conflict with Russia, but, on the other hand, asking Ukraine to keep supplying the Crimea with electricity, oil, gas, and other commodities, seems a bit far fetched. This isn't going to end well.
Could be Russia's next move is to hold elections in part of southeast Ukraine to connect Crimea to Russia via land. Who knows what Putin's next move is., if he knows himself.
Depends if Putin elects to "protect" Russians elsewhere in Eastern Ukraine.
Why is Obama even commenting on this situation? The world knows he won't do anything.
"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said
The guy is worried about our image to the world. He continually looks like a chump on foreign policy. Assad 1 - Obama 0. Putin saw the weak leader that Obama is and acted. Putin 1 Obama 0.
After Russia's little nudge at us today, it could get nasty quick.
We were told to stay out of it, or they could turn us in to radioactive ash.
(i) to be responsible for or complicit in, or to have engaged in, directly or indirectly, any of the following:
(A) actions or policies that undermine democratic processes or institutions in Ukraine;
(B) actions or policies that threaten the peace, security, stability, sovereignty, or territorial integrity of Ukraine; or
so the EO about the Ukraine says this
so is it going to be applied to all or is this simply a poorly written shot at Russia?
