Funny.

Because history tells me the British, standing alone for a year against both the Italians and the Germans were kicking @ss up and down North Africa and in the Mediterranean as a whole.

Or, have you already forgotten that your Soviets signed a deal that put them as tenuous allies with the Germans to split Poland up... which they then took over and summarily slaughtered the entire intelligentsia of.

Kicking ass?! You are a fool and no nothing of WW2! The Germans had the equivalent of the 182nd airborne defending North Africa and ran circles around Monty only until they decided more important things lay in the east. The Germans could've ran the Brits off the African continent as easy as they did the European continent.

Had Germany concentrated on one front only, nobody would've stopped them and didn't when they did just that!

The Germans beat the British at Dunkirk and at Crete and it was pretty even in North Africa. rommel even beat the Americans at kasserine pass. It would have been hard for the British to win alone

Has anyone mentioned the massive amounts of Lend-Lease equipment we gave the Soviets to keep them from getting completely overrun?

Let me just appreciate this. Beautiful.

Also, your reading skills are pretty atrocious.

I said "stood alone against the Germans and Italians".

The British destroyed the Italian 10th Army and most of it's fleet.

But I guess we're just going to ignore the Italians because that doesn't float your "Soviets huzzah" line.

The Germans exerted little control outside of Continental Europe. They posed little to no threat to the Commonwealth or any of it's holdings nor the US.

Germany couldn't stop (and didn't stop) the US from landing in North Africa. Yes, it did defeat it at Kasserine but from '43 and on it's fate was sealed.

Now. Had the Germans and Soviets actually stayed allies there would have been a problem. The Germans displayed one thing:

- Keen mind for combat, horrible mind for logistics

Combat wins battles, logistics win wars. The US and UK understood this and commanded the skies and seas.

Everything else would have just taken time and a significant sacrifice I'm not actually sure the US would have been willing to make.

Irrelevant given I'm going for the "Soviets weren't even needed in the first place" argument out of fun.

Given the other threads I've entertained myself in are dead/dying, I've moved on to this one.

This whole thing about how the Soviets were keeping the Germans at bay might be somewhat accurate.

However...

Without US and British aid the Soviets very well could have been overrun in a matter of months. 18,000+ aircraft alone were shipped to the Soviets during WWII. And that's not even getting into the nearly half a million vehicles, food, medicine and other equipment that makes an army run.

But the Soviets did it on their own...

Well, there is truth to that same as there is truth to "the threat of the British kept the Germans from focusing on the Eastern Front" as they had to keep a pretty sizable force in France and a pretty significant chunk of their air forces (which are critical to their blitzkrieg strategy as well as maintaining open supply lines across the huge expanse of the Soviet Union) spread out across the Mediterranean.

Hey, at least they repainted the B-29 they stole?

Pssst...Washington D.C. celebration.

:)

Funny thing about the Tu-4/B-29. By the time the Soviets got around to producing it, it was already obsolete as the B-36 was almost in production and the B-47 and B-52 were on the drawing boards along with the British V Bombers.

Well, dammit, I saw "Victory Day" and instantly prescribed it to mean Moscow. YT vid title didn't load in... I just saw the b-29.

Oh well. They still stole our B-29 and copied it. Did the same to the Brits when they gave them a jet engine (against US advice).

Russians remind me of Flip Wilson. Except for they replace "the Devil" with "America." And they're not funny.

The Soviets didn't get jack squat from the US and British during Stalingrad. That was a battle against the winter elements and pure Russian Bear determination.
