The God thread's rise was meteoric. Honestly, I'm not sure we've seen anything quite like it on here, save the Ferguson thread.

But Ukraine thread shows a persistence and relentless pursuit of excellence that, I dare say, will never be matched.

All this ceasefire has done has allowed for a consolidation of forces. Instead of some autonomous entities fighting Ukrainian forces, they are joining their C&C to a single voice. I've seen some strategists talk about a push to Mariupol would suck up what little Ukraine has left down to the south and nothing would stop Russia from launching an attack from the direction of Kursk to take Kyiv. This would be quick and bring Ukraine to its knees and force them to give the entire southern half to "Novorossiya" or as we know Russia.

Russia right now is watching the response of the West. If they can withstand additional time on sanctions they can wait a while for the guard to come down before doing more. I even think Putin would be satisfied with just slow bleeding this process. If he keeps chipping away on these small attacks I don't think all of Ukrainian forces can keep composed. Someone will slip and go loose cannon. This then gives Putin the motive. I still think he is at minimum happy with a destabilized Ukraine. This situation has done a lot of damage internally with the EU and NATO. The current status quo is fine for him. We will see if he keeps pressing on.

I don't think it happens, but what would a major defeat at Mariupol do to Putin's strategy? do you think it backs him off, or causes him to escalate?

I think if there is an attack on Mariupol it's a 'in it to win it' attitude. I think Azov is capable of holding its own but what they face is a very powerful force that is now reinforced and with higher tech.

They've picked up the ball and are taking it home. This is a very belligerent tone and not one of seeking peace. These sort of moves were indicative of the Soviets willing to push the world to the brink of war. He's upped the ante. We will see what this means soon.

Surprise, surprise...

Nemtsov shooter Dadaev took a 30 day "vacation" from his military service just like the other freelancers in Ukraine. Amazing how when you take a vacation from military service in Russia you still seem to be on the payroll carrying out orders for Putin...or at least benefiting him. So was he back from vacay when the shooting took place?

Deputy commander of the North Caucasus Regional Command of Interior Troops of Russia Igor thoracic stated that the accused in the murder of Boris Nemtsov Zaur Dadaev resigned from the Interior Ministry troops this year, February 28.
"His report was satisfied. From January 27, he was on leave in 2015, for 30 days - 28 February....Nemtsov was shot on the night of February 28 in the Greater Moscow River bridge in the center of Moscow.

Writing is on the wall? What writing exactly? NATO, the EU, and the US are all doing a collective nothing. We're all just sitting back doing absolutely nothing. No threat at all. No arming. Training on a minor level and still a few weeks out from that. A few tanks here and there within the alliance just to show we're not completely neutered. Right now the only one unzipping their pants and pulling something out is Putin. The West is tripping over their own laces and getting combinations of leaders to call Vlad on the phone and whisper sweet nothings in his ear. Only one side has writing on the wall. We're still digging through the box trying to figure out whether to use crayons or markers and then what color.

Looking at the grocery list of items here I'd say yeah, it looks like a ceasefire.

The OSCE does see traces of tracked vehicles crossing the border with Russia. Perhaps the CIA dropped some tanks behind the lines and is crossing tanks from Russia into LNR/DNR areas. And apparently, to monitor other border areas the OSCE needs "special permission" even though DNR/LNR signed off on free movement.

Doing nothing?! Sending "advisors" to Ukraine and chomping at the bit to send weapons is doing nothing?! Not to mention the numerous war games and joint training sessions?! Sanctions and daily media bombardment and accusations without proof?!

Sounds so peaceful...

Advisors? Chomping at the bit to send weapons but still not doing it...compared to actually having personnel and materiel flowing into Ukraine. Again, Pacer - if you'd like to keep a tally or running score on what is going on here Russia has all western nations combined beat. Crimea alone has the West beat. We can add the forces involved in there as well. The free and open border allowing more to go across the border. To this point you have the West doing nothing but lip service and Russia far ahead of them.

oh that the US has done nothing yet in Ukraine. i don't even think the 75 british troops have made it over yet. as for elsewhere we have every right, and in most situations, a requirement to be there.

When most countries release a statement on their foreign policy changes, etc. they do so with an official press release. Russia just uses their actual government controlled media, Sputnik, to release the statement. They seem to use RT as well. "Only Stream Media" in Russia is government owned and sourced.

of the things you mentioned, yes the US has done nothing. We have sent non-lethal aid over, not sure how anyone can complain about that. of course our cookies cause coups so......

Has the US allowed for thousands of trained and even elite "freelancers" with all of their equipment into Ukraine? Has the US sent elite units into Ukraine to capture and then integrate a full province into its country? Has the US hijacked a peace conference to the point of moving a ceasefire date back to allow for a town to be pummeled and seized? Again, want to keep score here? To date you and Ras have some phone conversation and meeting with diplomatic staff and members of Ukraine's government - which is completely normal every day occurrence especially considering the situation. And then some verbal comments on maybe arming Ukraine to a means of defending itself. What else do you have proof of? We have Putin's own words saying even before Yanukovich stepped out of Kyiv Putin worked plans to seize Crimea. This was counter to a year's worth of claims to the contrary. Before your "coup" and before the referendum in Crimea Putin planned to seize Crimea for his own. I'll keep waiting for this overwhelming proof from the "non-delusional" crowd...
