Ukraine Protests

RT is reporting that it's been signed:

Of course, they're also reporting that Putin has removed his troops from the Ukrainian border...for the third time. They were waxing smug yesterday, however, about the advent of the "New Eurasian Century," so they may have placed too many stakes in the deal already, ergo the potentially false report.

Suppose I'm not so crazy after all...

It's time for us to open our markets for NG and start shipping to Europe.

With this admin? I wouldn't bet either way.

Perhaps. I think it's a matter of how much pressure Europe is willing to place on the US/Canada to help in energy supplies. However, whether or not Obama is willing to go ahead with the venture, we probably won't see it take full effect until the next presidency.

Okay, RT is apparently right on this one. BBC also reporting the deal has been inked. If there was a delay in the deal, it was very, very brief.

Plenty of LNG terminals at the ports in Europe. Europeans are way on board with NG as a fuel and import most of it.

We produce a surplus of NG, so selling it on the world market at competitive prices makes good financial sense. And not even counting in the additional shipping that might be required to be built, jobs creation, etc.

Since it's good for the American economy, chances of Obama and company selling it?

So now Putin has no reason to pull out of Ukraine since the deal was signed. Watch Putin mobilize those troops.

Are they going to even try to have an election in Donetsk?

Be damned if I know. This election's only going to be slightly more legitimate than the Crimean and secessionist referendums, but that's not necessarily Kiev's fault.

The vast majority of the country will vote, of course. But those preventing all from voting will use it as fodder that the election is illegitimate.

Meanwhile, no one here cares what is happening in Thailand, apparently.

Third world shiite hole ... We've got our own problems.

In a round-a-bout way, yes. We've got bigger fish in the pan to fry. I wish the best for individual Johns and Janes in Thailand, but it just doesn't concern us or our interests like Ukraine does. I know that's a politic answer, but it's just a fact. That being said, I hope the best for the individual lives the coup may affect.

I'm really trying to understand why Ukraine is in our interests?

Why do we care? ( politics and business wise)

NATO, Asian pivot, EU trade interests, natural gas, oil, China and Russia alliance, Eurasianism, Atlanticism, energy, pipelines, military supplies contracts, technology, the meaning of democratic elections, Joe Biden's son getting a sweet oil company job, I could go on.

I'm not saying these things should matter. I'm just telling you why our govt. thinks this situation matters.

Who can argue with the Russians' side of the story at this point?

Russia blames West for everything that's happening in Ukraine - CSMonitor.com

I can.

Speaking at a conference in Moscow, the two men described western Europe and the US as threats to world peace, decried efforts to export democracy as a type of military action, and hinted at more aggressive Russian action in eastern Europe to protect what it sees as its interests.

This only follows if you subscribe to the Cold War notion that Ukraine being in the EU makes it more likely for Russia to be attacked.

What prescient is there for NATO doing that against a peaceful nation?

Thank you.

So which way do we want this to go?
