Witness: separatist forces located in residential area are firing mortar rounds at Ukrainian positions on outskirts of #Sloviansk #Ukraine

The Russian government is doing a poor job of hiding their involvement in the east. Heavy automatic weapons, rpgs, mortars, shoulder fired surface to air missiles. What next, T-90s?

Also have started seeing advanced anti-tank missiles show up as well.

However, the author does offer a fairly compelling case (for the present moment).

In the short term (which we're still in) the extent to which the sanctions are hampering Russia's economy is largely moot, so long as Putin maintains domestic support.

If Russians are happy with little to no economic growth, the West's "costs" weapon is severely blunted, and there's much less incentive for Putin to change course.

It's difficult for me to gauge the mood in Russia, but from what I've read, the masses still support Putin. So unless some squeezed oligarchs are letting Putin hear it behind closed doors, I'm not reading a 10% decline in Russian stocks as a sign that the party is about up.

I could be reading you wrong, but your post seems to suggest that the "opinion" of the masses matters. That doesn't necessarily mean that all is well.

Wait... people in Russia are allowed to have an opinion over their government? When did this happen?

As long as the economy remains stable (not tanking) and the people are more caught up in nationalistic fervor than the value of the ruble, where's going to be the real pressure for Putin to withdraw the troops?

We knew about Biden's son. Now, we find out John Kerry has a family friend that is joining the Ukrainian gas company.

Before you go off on the whole tangent and conspiracy theory about Osama and whatnot, do you actually know how large the Bin Laden family is? Or the fact they cut off Osama?

They cut him off publicly, but members of the royal family were proven to continue donating funds to his group of terrorists.

We definitely have been lied to by our government regarding the extent of Saudi involvement in 9/11.

I'm sure you have proof of this of course.

I don't know that the government has "lied," if you will; rather, it's kept a lot of information classified.

You think that has relevance to the Ukraine situation?

Apparently it does. Russia is trying to screw the West by offering up natural gas to the Chinese, but the Chinese are being ruthless in their negotiations because they know Russia doesn't have a lot of options right now. Either Russia sells to China at a hugely discounted price, or Russia has to back off the Ukraine and start dealing with the west. I'm sure Putin is pretty ticked off right now and wasn't counting on this.
