Seems there was an ambush on Ukrainian paratroopers by separatist militia. 7 paratroopers are dead per the UKR MoD.

Kind of shoots the whole "defenseless, peaceful citizens" narrative in the foot, doesn't it?

I meant to post it a few weeks back when I saw it (or maybe I did; can't remember), but some site did an article on how Russian media has been representing a new indigent immigrant/migrant laborer camp in eastern Ukraine as a veritable concentration camp. This is just another bit of the narrative that is making Russians and eastern Ukrainians (of Russian ethnicity) alike seriously think that Kiev is planning on genocide. They honestly believe that.

Edit: Oh, and the OSCE or some European international observers had been to the camp and said it was in full compliance with international health and rights standards for such sites.

just saw that. Even if it's unrelated it still feels like really, really bad timing

Extremely bad timing. In fact, such bad timing one wonders why he couldn't have just gotten another job with a oil conglomerate. I'm sure there's plenty out there for ex-military sons of US vice presidents.

The problem with sanctioning Russia? They have what everyone wants.

Putin to visit China on May 20: Kremlin

The Vice article I linked earlier on Naborno-Karabakh stated that Europe was already in talks about making a substantial shift towards Azerbaijani energy sources rather than Russian as a viable alternative. On the other hand, seems that Russia is probably going to look to shift towards China, India, and other Asian sources.

Plays right into the narrative that America/EU/whoever doesn't really care about the Ukrainian people and is merely using them as pawns in pursuit of its economic/geopolitical interests.

it does a lot more than that. Biden is very connected to groups who were active in Ukraine (like NDI)

Ukrainian MBTs rolling into Donetsk.

I was surprised to see the space station is scheduled to be shut down in a few years.

Why?

The $100 billion project is becoming non-functional?

Can you blame them?

Not necessarily. But a good deal of them are still being ridiculous conspiracy theorists. While they're at it, they might as well develop one regarding Russia's role in the ordeal as well. That will never happen though, because, in their mind, Russia has never done anything evil or bad in the history of ever.

Think it has to do more with age than anything. The original modules will be over 20 years old by 2020. And space is a pretty harsh environment.

But it is a valid point that we are not capable (right now) of getting our astronauts to and from the ISS and rely on the Russians to do so.
