Ukraine Protests

What I really want to know though is who the dude is with the guitar on the banner attached to the city lampposts in the square.

Okay, sorry, but there's so much in that video. Mother****er with a cardigan wrapped around his waist throwing **** at Ukrainian APCs.

Man, that's just wild.

Say what you will about Putin--to have this kind of support after 15 years in power, with an economy performing more poorly than America's, is quite a feat:

A late April survey by the independent Levada pollster put support for the former KGB spy at 82 percent, its highest since late 2010.

The state-funded VTsIOM last month found that 61 to 66 percent said they trusted Putin, the highest since at least January 2006. Just 3 percent mistrusted Putin, the lowest since November 2010.

Wonder how many other world leaders have such good approval numbers?

State control over a majority of Russian media has probably played a significant factor in those numbers. A large portion of Russians actually believe Nazis have taken over Kiev.

I read a study a month or two back concerning how the majority of Russians really just don't care about being ruled by the lash, so to speak. It's the way it's always been for them, and they just passively accept it. The study said that a 60% majority (as I seem to recall) thought it was completely acceptable for the state to control media.

Yep. Something tells me that the eastern Ukraine is going to end up Russian territory, however.

When you think of the worst redneck you've ever seen in Tennessee..multiply that by 10 and you have a normal Russian.

You may be right. I always try to keep in mind how, given the educational opportunities we have in this country and the amount of idiots we still have, that mental coherence must be much worse in countries without similar access to education. Seems like I've already discussed this with either you or the other FLVOL concerning Pakistanis but it's been a year or two ago.

400 US mercenaries 'deployed on ground' in Ukraine military op ? RT News

RT claiming that 400 US mercenaries are currently operating in eastern Ukraine. They site a German news source as proof, but I'm not familiar with the particular source in question.

Since there's no doubt how this election is going to turn out, tomorrow is when things are going to start getting really interesting. We've been thinking that Putin is the wildcard this entire time, but honestly, I think the wildcard is Kiev. How far are they willing to go to preserve Ukraine's territorial integrity?

Edit: And as always, read the comments section at the risk of mental detriment.

That was me. I had to work with Pakistani Army right after 2001 and we were briefed that they pretty much had the education of a 3rd grader. That was true. Their concept of American's was what they heard by word of mouth at their Friday prayers (it wasnt good). I did give one guy a dime and he knew FDR was on it which was odd at the time.

Hell, I didn't even know FDR was on the dime. I'll have to get a dime and look. Color me stupid.

Yeah, I thought that was you. Seems like you were sporting a Bruce Campbell "Boomstick" avatar at the time.

Speaking of the Pakistanis, it's frustrating when people are so ignorant it clouds their judgment. But I always have to remind myself that not everyone has had the same opportunities as me to learn that the world is not a piece of propaganda.

Don't they have tear gas and other riot-control stuff in Ukraine?

They need to just start dropping CS gas each pass through there.

LOL!

watching the video I just kept thinking, "come on guys fill in the hole maybe they won't make it through a third time around." Seriously, some rubber bullets, bean bag rounds and tear gas would clear that intersection in a heart beat. Film it all you want I wouldn't care.

Apparently some Ukrainian nationalists fired on a polling station today. There's bad eggs in every crowd. Unfortunately, this will add fuel to the Kremlin's victim complex.

Here's the original post:

Which has this idiot from Al Jezeera talking about some Tom Clancy-esque French-German-Russian alliance that counters the US on the world stage. Then you pop in with this:

Which is even more nonsense and now try to back up your claims about gas imports and the German people accepting the Russian annexation of the Crimea. Acceptance does not mean they like it. I accept the fact I will never have Bar Refaeli alone in a hot tub wanting to do naughty things to me, doesn't mean I like it.

And this idea that Russia and China are going to team up now and take over the world? Really? If China wants to destroy us, they do not need the Russians help in doing it. Economically they could destroy us if they wanted which in turn destroys us as a world and military power.

Just stop...

I'm going to come back and re-address this in the next 9-12 months. Germany and Russia will have closer relations than you think they could have.
