Ukraine Protests

The 2nd in command of Right Sector, Oleksandr Muzychko, was just found shot to death apparently. Have seen conspiracy theories that said the Kremlin did it to try and pin this on the Kiev gov't to stir up further trouble.

I don't know about the next 3-4 years, but in the next 10-20, Russia will be a dirthole. And not because of a war, but because of implosion.

The Russian economy is beyond screwed. Their own economic minister predicted stagnation through 2030.

The Russians have a group that can carry this kind of thing out:

Vympel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So the conspiracy theories might not be too far fetched.

There is no such thing as "too big to fail."

I agree. Which is why I specified at the moment. We're too big to fail now and for the foreseeable future, but won't be forever. We'll certainly need major adjustments. Unfortunately, both Democrats and Republicans are too big of ideological ******* warriors to perform such practical matters at the moment.

Off-topic but I was never clear on how they're using that phrase regarding banks...and I guess it's being used in the same manner here.

When they said "To big to fail" are they talking about something being so big that they don't think it's possible for it to fail, or do they mean that it's so vital that we can't let it fail?

This is interesting. And I've also taking Grand Vol's post into consideration here as well. Here are my biggest concerns:

1) Russia is the one obsessed with right-wingers and fascists (even though Putin is a neo-fascist, but that's just between you and me; he either doesn't realize this fact, or is just hoping to exploit the ignorance of his base just like any other fascist demagogue). So, why would the Ukrainian government be stirred up by the death of a "right-winger"? Unless, of course, Russia is actually dumb enough to believe the Ukraine is completely in the control of right-wingers.

2) Right-wing (or left-wing) radicals are constantly competing for position within the group. The death, if true, doesn't necessarily mean an outside party was accomplice or perpetrator.

Yes

:)

From what I recall, a little of both actually.

The latter. It's too vital.

The latter. It's too vital.

Problem isn't the fact that the nation is too vital, but rather if the people, collectively, will wait for the system to unscrew itself. Let's just say for one moment the welfare system was to shut down because our government went broke. Military and government retirements were shut off and all public services were suddenly stopped.

How long before people start taking matters into their own hands? Week? Two? A month? How long before the looting and rioting starts and people start taking what they want (or need) and the so called theory of control is tossed out the window?

So are the people willing to wait on the "bail out" of the government? Or are they going to skip the song and dance of "too big to fail" and take matters into their own hands?

Can't get the link to open without an account, but it seems pretty serious lol

I don't have an account either. Maybe if you click on the Twitter link the paywall won't activate.

The female journalists and social activists behind the campaign are selling t-shirts that promote their cause. The proceeds will go to -- wait for it -- "the needs of the Ukrainian army," according to one of the group's founders, Katerina Venzhik, the editor of news website Delo.UA. On the group's Facebook page, young, tattooed women model the shirts, which feature hands clasped in prayer and cradling what looks like a vagina. The design is accompanied by a quote from Ukrainian national poet Taras Shevchenko: "O dark-browed maidens fall in love, but not with the Moskals [Russians]." The shirts sell for $23.

"O dark-browed maidens fall in love, but not with the Moskals [Russians]."

It's amazing those few letters say all of that on that shirt.

...increased US competition could drive down Russia's revenues from natural gas exports by as much as 30% over the next five years, and by as much as 60% in the longer term.

And this is why it's good to diversify your portfolio. Ole' Vlad might go out looking like a champ, but his successor is going to have some very serious issues.

I'd love for someone to be able to perform a running tally to account for how many acts of war Russia has performed during this crisis. Each base and ship seizure in Crimea alone ought to be able to account for at least 20-40, not to mention their naval blockade.

Does it really matter? Nobody is going to stand up to them and do anything about it. Putin has bigger balls than practically anyone else in the world. All he does is laugh at the threats against him.
