I personally think Tyler Byrd could leave UT as being one of the greatest players ever to have put on a Vols uniform. He's a freak of nature! He will take over our PR duties starting next season once Cam leaves & may even have a few chances this coming season.

He can do anything. When you get the ball in his hands look out. He's capable of taking it to the house everytime. Of course, I'm basing my opinion about him on video from high school. I've watched a ton of his videos. I think playing him at WR is the right choice. He could play CB too but we need him there at WR as a playmaker.

He is a dynamic player. He is very agile. He is very fast. He is very athletic. What does that add up to? A star player if you ask me. He will see the field in 2016. As a WR he will get 10-15 snaps a game at least.

He will probably also relieve Cam at PR when he's tired or ask for a break from it. Like I said, I've watched tons of video on this kid. I've NEVER in my 40+ years(since I was 5 years old) of following UT football seen a high school kid have so many skills & abilities on the field. He has the hands similar to ODB Jr. He's not tall but he's very shifty & quick.

He also has a solid vertical jump. I think we put him & Preston Williams on the field at WR at the same time teams are going to be in trouble.

Add Josh Smith & Josh Malone in a 4 WR set then I don't know what the defense is going to to do plus Ethan Wolf at TE on the field as well. I feel sorry for defenses trying to stop that core of receivers.

Then, add Hurd and/or Kamara to watch out of the backfield in the passing game? Good Luck defenses! As long as Dobbs can make the right decisions & throws we should have quite a few big plays in the passing game alone. We know both Hurd & Kamara are going to dominate in the running game.

If he is everything some of our VN posters are projecting for him, I foresee the possibility of him playing both ways and perhaps robbing somebody of the Big10 of the Heisman someday. It couldn't happen to a better school and kid than a vaunted QB at Michigan robbed by a defensive/offensive player at UT 2017 or 2018 named Byrd.

But yet, we still have people freaking out about our recruiting class in mid July. I just don't understand

It's because Tennessee has the most talent in state it's ever had and is missing on almost every target.

Just one elite player can make the difference in winning and winning titles.....the Vols can use and need a game changer on both sides of the ball.........perhaps Tyler Byrd is a game changer....let's hope

That's where I am. Kid appears to have a ton of talent and potential, but until he laces em up and we see him perform, there's no way to know what he's gonna be. Let's hope indeed.

Interesting, I thought incoming WR Latrell Williams was faster. Oh well, two burners are better than one!

Williams is faster in the 40 from everything that I've seen out there. LW reportedly ran a 4.27 in the 40 once. His straight line speed is ridiculous and he has pretty good elusiveness as well.

Byrd is a burner too. I would bet anything he runs at least somewhere in the 4.4's, I have heard in the 4.3's as well. Byrd will dominate at any position he plays because he has it all. Competitiveness, speed, agility, and great football instincts. You just don't see that combination very often. He actually reminds me of Eric Berry, because Berry was the total package.

Could see Byrd having several roles at Tennessee. I think he'll make an impact on special teams (in coverage and return) right away. He'll do great on either side of the ball. Sky is the limit with Byrd.

I don't think it's possible for this guy to be a bust. I was very happy when we got him and predict that he will be a super star here.

For once, I'd just like to see one of these rating services start explaining why a particular recruit is a certain star rating. Even better, they could explain what Byrd would have had to have done to have been a 5*.

Sometimes I think they flip a coin.

Someone told me each service only has 32 players per class that get 5 stars, because they project them to be first round NFL draft picks later on.

So, if a service sees Byrd as the No. 33 best player in a class, he is a 4 star, even thought he might have been a 5 star the year before or the year after. And when one player earns his fifth star when they update rankings, another player loses one and becomes a 4 star. So I was told.

Does it make sense? Not really. And is it always accurate? Of course not. However, that might partially explain why so very good players never get the fifth star.

The guy is just a freak athlete. He'd be great on either side of the ball, but may be wise to have him help at WR this year
Yup throw him in the mix at WR to start. We need a blazer and even though we have LOADS of talent at WR we don't have a straight go to receiver yet. I think Preston will be that guy this year but Byrd is to go to keep on the bench. We need a vertical burner and he fits that to a T imo

That's only true for 247.

ESPN for example had only 9 five stars in 2016 but 20 five stars 2015.

And then some services like Scout might have 50 five stars in a year.

It varies from site to site.

I personally like ESPN. They keep their five stars small and vary them from year to year based on the talent coming out than a predetermined number.

<blue font> It also explains why Boise State year in and year out sucks at football. Rarely do they ever get a 4 star, most of their best players are also ran 3 stars. Yet somehow they can compete and beat the big boys from time to time.

IMO, I think Malone will have a breakout year if (stress the if) the passing game unfolds like it should. He and Dobbs have been working together for three years now and you could see a few moments last season of the bond that's been built between the two.

Not to say PWill, Smith, Byrd and others can't or won't contribute. But I think Malone will become "that guy" and become a serious weapon at WR.

People keep pointing that out, but isn't it just mid July for the likes of UGA, Bama and LSU too. That argument does not cut ice with me anymore. Sorry:thud:

It certainly cuts ice considering Arizona St, Ole Miss and Miami had Dobbs, Richmond and Byrd on their list until Butch swooped them on NSD. July isn't February. If you don't believe me you can verify on any US certified calendar. :hi:
