Tyler Byrd already turning heads

It's guys like this that make me appreciate CBJ's recruiting abilities. This time last year, we had no shot at this guy. He is going to be a special player for us.

...and a big shout out to Coach Larry Scott...

GO VOLS!

How great would it be to actually have a freshman come in and have a Carl Pickens type impact? Somebody who is so good that he actually comes in and becomes our #1 WR option and helps transform the offense? I hope Tyler is that type of player.

It would be great, BUT I really think the staff will use this as a motivational tool for some of our WRs that have so far underperformed. Granted, Dobbs may not be the most accurate QB that has played for the Vols, but the young man does throw a very pretty and catchable deep ball. I for one am not entirely convinced our WRs have the hunger it takes to GET the dxxn ball wherever it is! Many of our kids at WR should know where the ball is going to be, are larger than the kids defending them, and should be closer to making plays than they often are. Byrd and other younger guys may make some of our older guys watch them play if they don't begin to make plays, star power or not, just sayin'.

Scott should get some credit here, but don't forget CRG and Butch had Carlin in the fold long before Larry Scott to UT was even a possibility. I'm sure CFA was putting that bug in Tyler's ear while Scott was preaching Miami....

The young man looks like a demon on offense and defense...What a great problem to have....He looks like a 6 star player.

Nailed it CP. It doesn't take a genius to see, Byrd is a Beast.

Didn't a running back come too?

The guy is just a freak athlete. He'd be great on either side of the ball, but may be wise to have him help at WR this year

Not sure that we need to waste an ultra athlete at WR when we play 10 of them every game and they only get to play 12-15 min a game to catch 35 yds. of offense.:unsure::unsure:

actually wouldn't doubt some changes to that philosophy this season...even Butch can learn...and surely he keeps up with us experts on VN...:)

Pickens was great...but he also redshirted his first year.

He also played DB as a freshman and had 4 INTs. Returned kicks and was great at that, too -- as I'm sure you remember.

Yeah, I'd be happy if Byrd can play well enough to evoke comparisons to Carl.

I like the thought of him being able to play offense, defense and ST. It creates competition for the others to get better.

Byrd is going to be a beast, he was one of my favorites from the class. I almost completely forgot about CFA. I'm sure CFA will redshirt this year unless major injuries take place.

Never a dispute on his greatness...more on the instant impact aspect. Webb was great in the same class...and redshirted. :). It was a Majors thing.

Seriously? LOL, CBJ had no chance and I mean zero chance of getting this guy without Carlin and Larry Scott. If you're going to credit someone, at least credit the guys responsible.

I more or less trust Butch,
but Byrd needs to be at DB.

Look a little like a Pharoh Cooper type to me. I could see him playing a roll like Calloway did for gators last year if he plays. Surround him with older players and put him in a position to out run everyone in an open field. With hands like that I have no idea why you would put him st DB?

To snag interceptions?

Obviously he's a pretty good corner, but why waste someone who can actually catch a ball? Let him score.

Route running is pretty important. Maybe he won't be as skilled there as he is in coverage. If he's very good at wr but excellent in coverage? Things that factor.

As good as this kid seems to be now just wait until he has a couple of years in our system and lots more knowledge and experience on the SEC field.

We could be talking all SEC and All American.

Only think limiting him is himself so I hope he remains really hungry to make himself great.

#BrickbyBrick...Vols building a Champion...VFL...GBO!!!
