Ty Simpson?

Is there interest here on both sides?
Living in Tide Land I have not read or heard anything that he is interested in Vols. There has really been no news about him transferring at all other than he would evaluate his future with his family. Not sure if Bama coach has indicated he wants a new QB next season or not is the reason discussing with his family.

See that’s where I think the problem lies. Money. We all know we need tons of help on defense and on both lines of scrimmage honestly. I have seen people on here say oh well QB is the most important position. Maybe so but if we had last years defense with this years offense, we maybe lose one game and are in the playoffs.

i compl agree about addressing the most needed parts of the roster first and getting a lower ranked guy at QB. Wasn’t Chambliss a D2 QB?
Chambliss was a D2 QB, I think, but counting on that working is a 1 of 4 shot since all the other QBs still playing were not D2 guys.

Trying to catch lightning in a bottle again, as we essentially did with Hooker making his jump from VT, is risky business. Yes, I know that's not D2 but Hooker couldn't keep a starting job and transferred in to Jeremy Pruitt of JG fame, not Heupel. It was wonderful and amazing, but not where I'd hang my hopes.

Heupel is obviously good with QBs so I trust he's got this. If Joey A does get another year, it's good for the Vols and bad for college football as a whole, but I'll take it I guess. If Heupel makes a deal with Leavitt, I'll trust his judgement. If Heupel pulls a guy out of the shadows, I'll trust him.

My current thought on Heupel is: he's good with an older QB but I'm not seeing good development from his young QBs. He's still a heck of a lot better QB evaluator than me.

3 million for a year is a lot, but you have got to think we are willing to spend some money to bridge the gap. If we have a mediocre season next year Heups seat will get a little warm.

makes you wonder if all this noise is just an angle for bigger NIL at Bama.

Ah, I’ve joined you in heart of Tide Land. Everything I see or hear is they absolutely don’t want him back and want to move to the other two backups.

Knowing Tide fans losing 2 games for SEC and playoffs is reason for hanging, ha. Would not be surprised if he leaves. Just saying I had not seen anything from any reliable news source here in my area that was saying anything.

The AL tradition is interesting now. How far that Saban less tradition and NIL will carry them is a TBD.

Simpson is the #3 QB in several NFL draft rankings behind Mendoza and Dante Moore. That's a pretty weak QB year for the NFL draft which is to his advantage in getting first round money, IMO.

Go to the NFL, stay at Bama, or skip info the portal. It's a nice place to be for Simpson.

You have to think skipping into the portal is not the smart move if he grades out to be in the first round of the draft. The only reason I can see coming back to college is to possibly get a Heisman.

Go to the NFL, young man.

The further they get away from the Saban years, the less it will work in their favor.

Them getting absolutely nuked in that playoff game (and the SECC game) definitely helps our cause. It’s all anyone will remember about their season.

Same thing happened to us in the playoffs. That’s the game everybody remember our season by. We would have been better off not going to that playoff game.

I, too, live deep in Tide Land and can confirm that, as of today, Tiders are talking about Simpson transferring. Furthermore, DeBoer is not and idiot. He knows Simpson is his best QB and the lack of offensive production was in no way the fault of Simpson. It is my belief that if Simpson does not go pro, he will have to consider his health if playing behind the Bama OL and how much better he could perform on a team that could run the ball and receivers that actually catch the football.

“But he won’t have Ryan Williams”….😂🤦🏻‍♂️

And think, this is only the beginning. How soon until we see a $10 milllion dollar QB? I give it less than 5 years.
I could just as easily see it go the other way.

Eventually, boosters might lose interest in throwing away their cash for this out of control system with no ROI. The amount these kids get starts to come back down to more reasonable valuation. I'm not mad at any kid getting what they can, but this doesn't seem sustainable to me.

If this out of control pay continues, I could see a system where the majority of high school kids go to lower tier schools and becomes a farm system for the P4. 4 and 5 stars get some money to get recruited by the big schools, but the majority of cash goes to "free agency". The youngest teams are the minor leagues and the upper classmen and studs finish their careers in P4.

The quicker we get to collective bargain the sooner the wild wild West ends.

Why? What makes Bama think two unproven backups would be better than Simpson? Can they run? Is a running QB part of Deboer’s ( however the heck you spell) system? Not sure he’s going to be around long enough to install his system anyway

They are absolutely convinced the backups are the answer and will solve all the problems.

The only thing that they have proven, is they can run.

They are probably broke from paying 3 QBs. Gotta move one out and the old man fits the bill.

I see where you're coming from, but are we so conditioned that 3.5 million dollars is seen as a bargain for a 22 year old kid to play a game?

I know how we got here, but what stuns me is how quickly it all happened. Seems like yesterday we, the University of Tennessee, stunned college football by paying team Nico $2m. This is insane.
Makes me wonder what it will be in 5 years.
