Two Deep Depth Chart Released

Your problem is you are looking backwards. Last year is last year. 2017 is a new season. New stars will emerge. You seem to have forgotten the sport we are talking about is college football. Every season is new.

Quieten Dormady AND Jarrett Guarantano are better than any other QB in the East. John Kelly is better than Nick Chubb or any other RB in the East. And the 2017 Vols will have the best defense in the East.

Stop looking backwards and look forwards. 2017 is our year.

Your problem is that you don't look backwards.
Past performance can be an indicator of future performance. You totally disregard past performance of other teams, yet you're convinced that a guy who has never taken a meaningful snap (QD) and a guy who has never taken a snap, period (JG) are better than any other QB in the East. That is just an opinion/projection that is based on essentially nothing.
This division has 2 other very young, highly recruited, highly talented QBs who actually have already played and should continue to improve.

I think the only thing you and I will agree on, and it is a point Nationdom already made in this thread, and it is that Butch holds this team back. Last year's team was talented enough to and should have won the East. I'm not sure this one is.

I know it's pathetic. Blows my mind when I see Tennessee fans make statements like "8-4 is a great season considering the losses to the draft","6-6 and Jones MIGHT start feeling the heat" are you kidding me?

10-2 should be the floor. SEC East Champions should be the standard this year. Anything short of that and Butch Jones should be shown the door.

And this isn't to say Butch Jones is a bad coach. The standard at Tennessee is just higher than just being okay. 8-9 win seasons at Tennessee should be UNACCEPTABLE. This should be championship level program every year.

And with how much talent the state of Tennessee is producing now we should be able to attract a big time head coach. The state of Tennessee is now a top 5 producer of college football talent. And thus it's a top 5 job. Coaches will be fighting over this job.

Top 5??

Top 10 yes.
I know That we will have a really talented 2019 class. That trend should continue.

We will win the East this year.
So...Butch will be even more entrenched into Tennessee football.

I don't disagree a great deal with your points stated above. I just they will become moot.

Tennessee ranked 6th last year in players signing d1 scholarships, not too bad.

You better get ready for an 8 win season.

No. Florida is a mess right now and Georgia is not as talented as the media makes them out. We are FAR AND AWAY the most talented team in the SEC East. We have the most experience. We have the best QB, best RB, and best defense in the division. There is zero excuse to not winning the division and playing for the SEC Championship in Atlanta this season.

Any coach who is even semi-competent could do it. If Butch can't get it done this year it might be time for the program to move ahead and find a coach who is actually ELITE.

Maybe I'm alone here but I'm not OK with mediocrity. Just being 9-4 isn't good enough at Tennessee. Its championship or bust here. And until this fanbase and administration recognizes that should be the standard, we'll continue to be a mediocre football team.

How can you realistically say that a guy who has never started a game is the for sure the best QB in the division? Whether it being JG or QD, neither has played any meaningful snaps, so its a stretch to say that we for sure have the best QB in the east when guys like Eason, Lock, and Bentley returning.

Defensively, we have a walk-on starting at middle linebacker for the foreseeable future (no offense to Jumper because he's better than he's given credit for). Neither of our starting corners have shown any consistency over the course of their careers. Kendall Vickers aside, our starting DL has very little proven production and only 2 career starts combined. This defense can be solid, but best in the east? Unlikely.

You aren't alone in wanting Tennessee to be at a championship level again, and I love your passion. However, your expectation for this season and your analysis of this team is a bit off. This year was always going to be a bit of a down year because of how much we would be losing from the 2016 team. 8-4 is a realistic expectation for this season. Anything more than that would be a pleasant surprise based off of what we have seen from the returning players.

Realist.

Liked.

But you don't understand, it's how they look that counts:crazy:

You are smoking crack.

Tennessee is not far and away the most talented team in this division.

Best QB? That's either in Athens or Columbia. Our probable starter has never taken a meaningful college snap. Our other guy hasn't taken a college snap, period.

Best RB? Also in Athens. That isn't to knock John Kelly; I really like him and think he will have a big year if he stays healthy, but Chubb is about as proven a commodity as their is in college football despite the knee injury.

Best defense? That's either in Gainesville or Athens. Georgia returns 10 starters from a defense that got better as the season went on last year and is playing for a defensive-minded HC.

Curious how you don't mention the offensive line, but we don't have a top unit there either. A true freshman is probably going to be our best offensive lineman this year, which isn't as much a compliment to Trey Smith as it is an indictment of the quality of the rest of the line.

As far as our defense, our defensive line has unproven and injury-prone guys, our linebackers aren't great, and our secondary isn't either. You're really high on Nigel Warrior, and I am too, but remember he's going to be a true sophomore and hasn't taken many meaningful defensive snaps. If he steps in and immediately is a gamebreaker, that's also an indictment of our depth at that position. You obviously follow lots of NFL drafts...how many guys out of our secondary have been drafted within the last 10 years? I'll tell you: 2 (Jonathan Wade and Eric Berry). That's pathetic. The secondary has been a black hole for a long time.

Honestly, you both have no clue. Everything is just speculation at this point.

Pay no attention to him. He gave up on this team last year during the season. He's not a fan, just a troll that likes to hang out here
