Two Deep Depth Chart Released

The more people who believe Tennessee is a top program, the more likely we are to succeed. We've got Tennessee "fans" on here predicting Georgia to win the east. Just goes to show how clueless peole are. We've got the most talent, the best QB situatuon, the best defense, and the best DC in the east. There is is no excuse not to go 11-1, or 10-2 with a bad break. Its not that complicated. But no, we will finish third at best in the east.

Exactly. If fans feel comfortable with mediocrity then the administration will feel no need to push for greatness. And right now Tennessee fans are acting like they're fine with mediocrity when they pick Georgia to win the East and are fine with Butch Jones as a coach if keeps losing 4 games every year.

As you said we are a 10-2 football team AT WORST. And fans who are afraid to set the standard at that are contributing to mediocrity that the administration at Tennessee seems comfortable with.

Some people tend to take a more logical approach instead of blindly picking Tennessee to win every year.

How do we have the best QB situation? No QB on our roster has played any big time minutes.
The best defense? So we went from the worst defense in Vols history after losing the top players on d?

The best DC in the east? Didnt we have that last season too? How did that work out.

There was no excuse to go 11-/10-2 the last two season.....yet.....

So yeah, like you said, its not that complicated.

The only thing holding this team back is Jones. Someone else has already mentioned how he had OU and UF in the bag and blew both games. He lost to Arkansas, freaking Arkansas, AT NEYLAND stadium after blowing a 14 point lead. We all know what he did last year.I can even trust the guy to get the right players on the field. Warrior should have been playing last year and he's still got Colton starting over a 5.8 and 5.9. Both immensely more talented but still behiND a below averge walk on.

We've got 2 QBS that would start at 90% of teams in the country. Bob Shoop has proven with a lot less talent at Vandy and Penn state that he is an excellent DC and last year was not the norm.

O yeah and we've got John Kelly and Ty chandler, the second best tandem in the country at worst.

No. Florida is a mess right now and Georgia is not as talented as the media makes them out. We are FAR AND AWAY the most talented team in the SEC East. We have the most experience. We have the best QB, best RB, and best defense in the division. There is zero excuse to not winning the division and playing for the SEC Championship in Atlanta this season.

You are smoking crack.

Tennessee is not far and away the most talented team in this division.

Best QB? That's either in Athens or Columbia. Our probable starter has never taken a meaningful college snap. Our other guy hasn't taken a college snap, period.

Best RB? Also in Athens. That isn't to knock John Kelly; I really like him and think he will have a big year if he stays healthy, but Chubb is about as proven a commodity as their is in college football despite the knee injury.

Best defense? That's either in Gainesville or Athens. Georgia returns 10 starters from a defense that got better as the season went on last year and is playing for a defensive-minded HC.

Curious how you don't mention the offensive line, but we don't have a top unit there either. A true freshman is probably going to be our best offensive lineman this year, which isn't as much a compliment to Trey Smith as it is an indictment of the quality of the rest of the line.

As far as our defense, our defensive line has unproven and injury-prone guys, our linebackers aren't great, and our secondary isn't either. You're really high on Nigel Warrior, and I am too, but remember he's going to be a true sophomore and hasn't taken many meaningful defensive snaps. If he steps in and immediately is a gamebreaker, that's also an indictment of our depth at that position. You obviously follow lots of NFL drafts...how many guys out of our secondary have been drafted within the last 10 years? I'll tell you: 2 (Jonathan Wade and Eric Berry). That's pathetic. The secondary has been a black hole for a long time.

It makes no sense to me why so many fans here are hell bent on defending Butch Jones. He's done a good job building this program back up to respectability. But he has some major flaws. His coaching collapses in 2015 being the biggest black mark on his resume thus far.

Butch's biggest ongoing problem has been his horrible personnel decisions like starting Colton Jumper over more talented players and not utilizing Alvin Kamara more the last 2 years. If he keeps making these mistakes and we keep losing the East then he should be fired.

Mediocrity should be unacceptable at Tennessee.

You dont have to convince me that CBJ isnt a good football coach.

But for the rest of the stuff, just because its said doesnt make it true.

You have no idea that any QB we have would startover 90 of the teams in the country because noone has seen them play. But ive seen Eason play.

Bob Shoop may have done well at Vandy and Penn St, but he has been awful at Tennessee.

Who do you possibly know JK and TC are at worst the 2nd best tandem in the country, when one of them has never played a down of college football? We dont even know if he will be the 2 right now.

Yeah, saying that stuff sounds cool, but you have no way of knowing its accurate.

Your problem is you are looking backwards. Last year is last year. 2017 is a new season. New stars will emerge. You seem to have forgotten the sport we are talking about is college football. Every season is new.

Quieten Dormady AND Jarrett Guarantano are better than any other QB in the East. John Kelly is better than Nick Chubb or any other RB in the East. And the 2017 Vols will have the best defense in the East.

Stop looking backwards and look forwards. 2017 is our year.

Man please please u making comparisons on players that we have never see play a college down before..Just relax lets see what these kids do first before we start making comparisons..Anybody can look good running routes in practice let me see game action on tv in front of big stage..Then we can make comparisons

You've been on here long enough Greazy to know that this kid is both narcissistic beyond comprehension and absolutely certifiable.

I know it's pathetic. Blows my mind when I see Tennessee fans make statements like "8-4 is a great season considering the losses to the draft","6-6 and Jones MIGHT start feeling the heat" are you kidding me?

Cant make this stuff up

There is one thing that stood out to me, the similarity between height and weight and player types in each bracket is uncannily exact.

Im talking between the #1,#2 WR, and slot, or between the LCB RCB and nickel backs, etc. There is very little deviation in each bracket, but enough differnce between slot receiver to show the ideal use and ideal size.

In fact about the only anomaly in body type across our two deep is Shaq Wiggins, maybe his "lack of culture" simply means doesnt quite fit shoops philosophy, his history of playing mostly press, and need of good tennessee biscuits and gravy to get where he needs to be.

Moseley 5'11 184
Osborne 5'11 185
Shaq 5'10 169

He may have to grow an inch as well.

It does speak to specific and careful recruitment, good strength and condition, and dedication to a position's role and its ideal physical requirements.

It also might help explain why Kyle Phillips is behind Kongbo rather on the side. Hes simply a LE rather than a RE in Shoops defense. Remember how they both filled in at DT last year, again it reflects the continuity of philosophy and having enough depth so that they are not compromising their need for stouter, beefier Left ends. Without Taylor stepping up and other pieces falling in place, well, you dont have that luxury.

I know this is fairly typical and elementary information, but still, it reflects a systematic and organized approach to the entire program and may make some decisions easier to understand.

I deperately wanted Phillips to be a starter, and wanted someone to supplant Jumper. But seeing Bituli NOT at MLB and seeing Bates at MLB makes me wonder. Now, i do see Jumper and Bates as similar in style and skill, so it seems to make more sense than Jumper over Bituli or Sapp. Maybe Kirkland's photographic memory was the key attribute the hardest thing to replace at that position in Shoops defense.

And one casualty of hiring a defense mastermind like Shoop was the specific requirements to certain positions that differed from Jancek's philosophies. So being stuck with Jumper is not much different than Butch being stuck with Worley early on.

Ive been very dismissive of Colton, and questioning of certain personnel decisions...but this depth chart(as well as the quality individuals not included) definitely shows they finally got most of the pieces, and indeed reloaded, rather than rebuilt. Team 121 may just be another brick in Butch's steady ascent, bringing Tennessee back to prominence, and perhaps even another decade of dominance.

Or maybe im just finally figuring out that the coaches indeed know more than me about coaching football, and they knew what they were doing all along, and knew how far they had to go...lol...so I'm putting 100% faith in Butch and Co. From now on.....
.......or at least until the first official mistake of 2017 season is made, and then i may go back to being an irritating, self-appointed, make-believe football guru. Old habits die hard.

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!
