Tuesday Practice Thread: UTEP week

I think Pruitt would die before asking someone to come help coach his team. It's not a good look. JMO
Agree to disagree.
Having a job to get done and being smart enough to use an available resource to help do it, is encouraging.
Being more focused on your pride than the job, would be a terrible look, imo.

I agree. Never mind Fulmer. What does this say about Will Friend?

That he is open for more helping hands on the O-Line. Because that unit needs as much supervision as possible. Especially to get ready for Florida after they lost to Kentucky. (This isn't just for the UTEP game I can assure you)

I think it is what it is and the biggest problem with it is going to be within the fan base.

ItI will say that while Im all for anything that can help us get better, I do wish our new coach didn't have to ask our Athletic Director for help with his O line.

But again, whatever, I hope it makes an immediate positive difference.

Coach/AD Fulmer is bleeding orange all over the team...he's helping to bring the boys along and he knows a thing or two...gotta like that...and

GO VOLS!

If Pruitt talked to Will Friend beforehand and they both agreed that Fulmer might help get the O line better, faster then all should be well.

If they both went to Fulmer and asked for a little help with the O line then all is well.

If Fulmer and Friend talked everything over together so that both are teaching the exact same things then all is well.

If Fulmer helping out is a temporary thing then all is well.

As long as it's not breaking any NCAA moronic rules then all is well.

If Fulmer just butted in and pushed his way on to the coaching field without Pruitt and Friend wanting his help and advice then it could become a disaster but I doubt that Fulmer would be that brazen and dumb.

Fulmer and Friend together could be teaching 2 guys at the same time for double the personal attention to get our O line guys taught up twice as fast and that can only be a good thing.

As long as our OC is also on board with all of this then all is well.

Time will tell us all what we really need to know.

VFL...GBO!!!

Nobody's claiming that Fulmer is trying to take over as head coach, so the snarky remarks are just that. The concern is, when Fulmer was hired for the AD position and hired a first time head coach, that Fulmer might try and run things, thus creating friction between himself and the new coach. Now, if he was asked to help out, fine. If he marched into CJP's office and said, as his boss, 'you need help with the line', then big problem. I mean, the guy we thought would need two years minimum to turn things around has had two lousy games.

You act as if watching the offensive line work for 10 minutes and chatting it up with some players is the exact same thing as single handedly drilling them for an entire practice.

I'm sure Currie came to practice and spoke with players before too.

He does look rather lethargic.....................

Two weeks ago he was a high school kid. He's being taxed both mentally and physically as a brand new college student, if he appears to be draggin' axx, it's probably because he is.

Pruitt has already asked 10 guys to come help coach his team. They're called assistant coaches.

Now, I don't know if he asked Fulmer to help out or not, but if he did, that's no different than asking the other 10 fellows to help out. And the fact that Phillip is AD doesn't really affect that equation. A person can be one thing in one place, and another thing in another place. Off the field, Fulmer is Pruitt's boss. On the field (if this is really what's happening), he's an assistant coach.

No different than a fleet admiral deferring to the captain of his flag ship when it comes to running and fighting that vessel. There's only one captain.

And on the field, that's Jeremy. This isn't an issue.

There's decidedly not many people walking the shoe leather of this planet part of a Vols team rocking a National Championship ring with a Power T on it, has a resume which includes being a HOF football coach, with stellar experience as a OL coach and former player as well. If the idea from Pruitt is to utilize that experience in some way to gain an edge for this crop of Vols, the problem is???

Worley threw more TD passes than JG.... Lol... I'm wishing JG all the success but need him to start throwing TDs. 1 TD in 2 games is unacceptable.

Edit: Chryst has only thrown 3 passes and has 1 TD....

He's only got one passing touchdown, but he's responsible for passing us down into scoring position. A lot of credit should go to JG for leading drives and making throws that get us there to score on 2 yard runs. Can't overlook that. Stats aren't the whole story.

That's a mouthful.

I agree completely. My point is we need to finish. Be it throws that allow the receiver to run under the ball or be it the receiver himself finishing.

Agreed. If anything it is as professional as the D1 Coaching Business gets hats off to both men and the staff. Bring everyone in to fix everything. It takes effort from everyone. Just like they have been saying.

He’s helping, not taking over. You’re being way too dramatic about this.
Nah I'm not concerned about it. It is a non issue, outside of this brief conversation. But it doesn't look good when your AD has to suit up and come help coach. It just doesn't. These men are paid millions to do a job. Administrators having to come help looks silly.
