Being mean /= authoritarian.
Trumps not a very nice person. Nut up and act like a damn adult and stop crying so damn much. You lost move on.
You guys kill me. What I cited above is a very clear abuse of power. Trump is using his influence as President to settle personal scores and punish media outlets who have had the nerve to report unfavorably against his administration. And it absolutely does meet the definition of authoritarian that you will find on Merriam-Webster.
...and through it all, Trump whines about the alleged politically motivated overreach of others - so you can put him down as a blatant hypocrite as well.
The true mark of an authoritarian regime in a republic state is to control the houses. That is what literally every authoritarian figure did.
More specifically, its usually demanding some sort of special power and snowballing it into being in a permanently elected position of power that bypasses the House.
Trumps power is not unfettered as judge Ellis has described Muellers. Trump says lots of things he wants that he doesnt get. And much to our enjoyment you guys come absolutely unhinged over every little thing regardless of what happens. He wont get what he wants with the Amazon postage deal.

Are you aware of the numerous examples of authoritarian (by your definition) rule by other politicians, too?
You kill me because you act like Trump invented this ****. He didn't. It's been brewing for decades but as long as "our guy" did it we looked the other way. Well, the authoritarian chickens are coming home to roost. You and every other socialist now get to choke on the buffet you've created.
I'm aware of the outrage that was expressed by the right over the Lois Lerner/IRS targeting of right wing groups. Hannity still brings it up once in a while... and how long ago was that? Three or four years?

Does that make it okay?
I was under the impression that a President didn't make laws, but only signed laws passed by both houses. Are you worried about an edict from Trump that will execute your drug dealer or something, and it won't make the news because Trump won't let the paper print it?A verbal threat is an action.
When Trump tweets out that he's worried NBC can say whatever they want and "someone should look into this", he has broken the law by threatening the free press.
The judicial precedent was set when police, with words, threatened to shut down a radio station that wouldn't comply with their demands during some investigation. The cops said they weren't actually going to do anything, but the courts ruled that the mere threat of censorship was a violation of the freedom of the press.

"Inside every liberal is a totalitarian screaming to get out", and socialist paradises almost always end up totalitarian - it's the only way it can work. There's no incentive to work in a socialist paradise - simply nothing to be gained by working harder - unless it's to become one of the power mongers; so somebody has to whip the serfs into producing.
...but let's also focus on other tangible actions of his that weren't just threats. Per the Postmaster General, Trump really has lobbied hard for Amazon's postage rates to be doubled. This is clearly in retaliation for the coverage he has received from a Bezos owned newspaper. That is outrageous.
I have been very deliberate the last 18 months to use socialist. Rarely use liberal or conservative anymore. I do this because many republicans (conservatives) are socialists too.
