Calhoun is #2 in my top 3 picks. My only reservation is that he is mostly untested at recruiting in a highly competitive area.

Guys, he is a HEAD Coach. Kiffy wasnt a college head coach and neither was WM. Experience does count. Remember, UF wasnt that excited when CUM started. They were questioning. How did that work out????

I think he's the best we have left. I'll take Calhoun over Cut right now.

Who else are we going to hire? There is NO ONE else interested. No Muschamp, no Patterson, no Peterson, etc...

This guy may seem boring, but he'll be a winner.

I'm in favor for either him or Kippy, but Kippy has zero experience as a HC at any level (save for the XFL), so I favor Calhoun.

He's not my first choice, or 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th--but he'll do, and I'm not too terribly upset.

I'm sorry, I have to say something. I don't have an opinion on Calhoun, but I keep seeing this 'Service Academies don't recruit' hogwash. Listen: SERVICE ACADEMIES DO RECRUIT FOR SPORTS!!!!! They recruit just like everyone else. Only it is a lot tougher. It is harder to recruit to a SA than to Vandy or just about anywhere. They have the same tough academic standards, plus signees have to commit to 5 years in the service after graduation. This whole thing about people being appointed makes it sound like they just draft their players. How ridiculous. They have to get football players to want to play there, just like everybody else.

A good friend of mine was recruited by them in high school, believe me it was just like the other schools he was recruited by.

It's just bad timing. Tennessee is still a great job, there just aren't many scumbags who are willing to leave their team at this point in the year.

Hey.....quick post here from someone in the AD's office at UT....Calhoun isn't the guy....look at Leach from Texas Tech, and Chan Gailey....those are the two names that have been thrown around the most here.

Yeah this is my first post but I have been reading here for a few years daily. People never listen. This guy was a NFL OC..... HE WILL NOT RUN THE OPTION HERE! We do not need to SETTLE with CDC. This guy has head coaching expience and CWM does not. Point is, we could do a lot worse. If this guy is our new coach, we need to get behind this program like never before and welcome him here. NOT BASH HIM. We may not all like HAMMY but what would you do in this situation. No matter who we hire, we will always be TENNESSEE. I don't know much about Calhoun, but I do know that It's great to be a Tennesse Vol and it always will be.

Recruits are the most important thing right now. TC is not tested in this area. Certainly not at Wake or AF. A proven recruiter is more valuable than some guy's record of discipline or Xs and Os.

We could have done worse. I am satisfied with this hire, he has a long row to hoe from here on out and his choices in assistants and coordinators will be critical. This late in the game it will be a little tougher to lure great recruiters from other programs. The programs future hangs on these choices much more than the hiring of the head coach IMO.

He will have the same pitch the previous staff had.

I thank if the rumor is true it is a good hire . I thank he ran the offense to fit his players there because you can't do much recuiting at the Air Force A.

i loved when pearl was hired. calhoun is a mistake and wont last 3 years. the only good news i guess is we wont have to worry about hammy picking the next coach because he will be long gone.
