Troy Calhoun (merged)

I like it and I don't. I like the integrity that he will bring. He will be the complete opposite of the dbag. But if he doesn't hire a great staff I will not be very excited. If he will keep who is here(minus Reeves) plus add Garner and maybe Trooper to help with recuriting then I like it alot.

1. Unlike Kiffin he does not have ties to another program he will leave us for. He could be here for 10 years even if he is tremendously successful.

2. He has a military background. I want him to grow sideburns, but out last military head coach got a stadium named after him.

3. He actually seems like a great person. People can mock St. Richt all they want, but combine being a great person with caring a great deal about discipline? We could be proud of our players and program and know that our coach is someone we would be proud for our sons to grow up to be like.

4. He can do a heck of a lot more than run the option. He can run a pro style offense, and he did that as an offensive coordinator in the pros.

5. I trust Mike Hamilton. Resisting Peyton Manning and lots of Fulmer players is great at this point because Cutcliffe has health problems and is not the right age to build something special. Mike knows his job is on the line. He was pressured with the Buzz firing and he hired Bruce Pearl. Home run. Was not a "name" hire. He was pressured before about lots of guys and Kiffin was a good-great hire that people thought was bad. He has no character and he shafted us, but he did work hard and recruit well.

Kiffin was all sizzle no steak. Carpenter should be able to help train Calhoun on the sizzle piece, but the man is full of substance. He is not relying on his daddy, he is his own man.

Most of those guys pry take steroids. I know tons of people over in Iraq and just about all of them do.

He better get rid of the option. Georgia Tech's offense score 7 points against Iowa....

Dude, how many times do people have to say that he isn't gonna run the option here. EVERY SERVICE ACADEMY RUNS THE OPTION BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN WIN A GAME. Academies do not have 320lb lineman. They have smaller athletic 250lb guys that can not hold up in pass protection. He is a prostyle guy and there will never be the Option or Flexbone Offense at UT. Period. :banghead2:

He's actually got a good DC at Air Force. I wonder if he brings that guy, or promotes Thompson.

So when was it that he recruited last?

You don't recruit (for football anyway) at Air Force. You don't recruit in the pros. Wake forest? Yeah, that's a school you recruit top ten talent to...This is BS. He's not a recruiter, and he is currently running the option. I hope we can do better than this. Is this what my once-proud big orange country has sunk to?

Yes, the service academies recruit! Are you serious? You think they line up all the freshmen and ask which ones what to play football?? In fact, the service academies recruit nationally moreso than any other programs... they are forced to in order to satisfy Congressional appointment slots.

Some people are hopeless.

I'm sure we'll be very proud of the good, disciplined UT boys who are getting the butts kicked every saturday by*the bad boys at florida, bama, georgia and others.

keep kippy, LT, and Chaney. at the very least, keep kippy and LT. they carried the mantle in a VERY tough situation....

Why? Just because of the Pearl hire?

I've said it once, I'll say it again...if you're jumping ship, I might be interested in your tickets. That is all.

Troy Calhoun needs to have a 3 part introductory statement. They should go something like this.
1) No Triple option.
2) While wearing a thank you KiffEn shirt, he says thanks for opening a "top 10 job".
3) Hi, I'm Troy Calhoun. I will be your next coach...

Let's face it, we are not a top 10 job if this is the best we can do on filling our coaching vacancy. Apparently no "name" coach is interested in our program. That tells us all we need to know. We like to think of our program being better than it actually is.

actually if you look at his resume it is impressive in being a top offense and passing well. It also has an emphasis on Special teams. If we turned it (gosh damn I hate saying this) but a VT type offense and rely on passing and special teams, I would be happen with some 9-10 win seasons for years to come. We have to remember if we are on the same level as a UGA and right below UF most years, I can handle going to the sugar bowl for now.

At the same time, all I can find as the reason people are reporting this is because of a team meeting being called. That's not exactly proof of anything yet.

Before reacting too negatively about the Calhoun news (or whoever ends up being our coach), please remember how many reacted to the Coach Pearl hiring:

Pearl who?

Never coached a major school.

Will never be able to recruit in the south.

Never heard of him.

He can't even keep the recruits already in the bag!

He want hire the assistants we already have picked out?!

etc, etc.

I do not think Hamilton is interested in the EASY pick. He is brave enough to go after the RIGHT pick. (I know what you are thinking: was Kiff the right pick?!).

I am just saying, let's give this guy a chance, and if it is Calhoun, we need to remember that he has coached a lot more than just the wishbone or whatever. I don't think that is happening at Tennessee.
